My pediatrician did not recommend allergy testing because she said "that is a lot to put a little girl through!" and exactly what your doctor said, "they'd end up leaving her on the same meds anyway." She had already been poked and prodded enough times when she was small in the hospital with IV's and oxygen tents. When she was first diagnosed at about 18 months old, she was hospitalized 5 times that winter for up to 5 days at a time. They had a lot of trouble keeping her oxygen levels up.

The next year, she was only in a couple of times, and then the following year it was even less. She's been to the ER several times in the past couple years, but has not had to be hospitalized. We learned how to recognize the first signs of an attack and got her on the nebulizer immediately.

Yes, my husband and I are distributors for the noni juice. After what it has done for our Jillian, we can't stop talking about it to everyone! So now we sell it to our friends and family mostly, and I try to spread the word to people with kids with asthma.

I've been there, and I know how terrible it is to watch your child struggle to take a breath. I don't want any parent to have to go through that.

If you are interested in giving it a try, email me privately and I'll give you more information. It is totally safe for everyone. I've read many, many articles about how eating certain foods can help relieve all kinds of illnesses. This is the same thing. Noni is a fruit that is grown in Tahiti and has tremendous healthy properties.

I'd love to help your daughter. I truly would.

I don't know if that question was directed to me but No, I do not work for that Noni company...never heard of them either.

I am a SAHM now for 2 years but I did work in a Lab at the hospital.

My son was allergy tested when he was about 5. They made 59 picks(injects allergy serum) on his back and upper arms...Then they grade the reaction by the size of the welt it makes...he was allergic to dust, cats, trees, grass, weeds...and many more. To start allergy shots they take a small part of what you are allergic to and make a serum out of it...and they inject you every week, for months to desensitize you to that allergen. It cost alot of money and when they made the first batch it was lost in transit to the doctors office...and then showed up about 1 month later...I said forget it, if you can't track that package better than that , you are not injecting that in my child...the allergy serum has to be refrigerated at all times...and did it sit somewhere for a month not refrigerated???? Was it tampered with??? and since I was paying the $500.00 for it, I needed to know this.
So we never got the allergy shots for him.
His asthma is much better now...he does all the things he wants and if in gym class he gets wheezing he takes his inhaler.
We did discover that riding the schoolbus made his asthma worse...he was having attacks everyday...first thing at school in the morning and then when he got home...we finally figured out it was the bus fumes! He had missed 22 days of school that year, compared to 2 last year.
Avoidance is the best treatment for us. We run an air cleaner all the time, and keep his room dust free along with the rest of the house...a daily battle here. Limit our exposure to fumes, strong perfumes, campfires, cats and so forth.

I have a DD aged 4, she was diagnosed with asthma, but she has an inhaler, but never uses it. She was diagnosed about 2-3 yrs ago, but she has never had any problems, unless she has a cold, or tonsilitis.

I am asthmatic as well as my ex-husband is also.

Does anyone think she could of caught it from us.

Alex and Christina also suffer from ezcema. Is that anything related to asthma.

If one parent has asthma, your offspring have 50%chance of having asthma...2 parents and that can be increased to 70-90%.

This does not mean they "have to" suffer from this.

More asthma is common in the world now, due to pollution, more cars, trucks on the road, the ozone layer, and more population, more viruses and so on.

Now, I was always told avoidance is a good way to eliminate things that cause allergies. For ex. I am allergic to dust, dust mite droppings, so I have to keep my house as dust free as possible. I dust with a wet cloth, so the dust gets grabbed and not stirred around into the air. I removed carpet from most of our rooms and this summer we hope to get the carpet off the bedroom floors...it is easier to run a swiffer mop or a damp mop to get all the dust and keep the mites away.

My son who suffered so much when little and even had exercise induced asthma too, is now much improved. He has grown out of it..this can happen...but not always.

I got asthma at age 30...my mom has asthma, and siblings too. Now mine is well undercontrol with Flovent...I still carry my rescue inhaler, and thank God I don't need it.

Ezcema, is not uncommon in asthmatics...my son gets it in his hairline, my sister has it with large patches on her elbows, her daughter has it in her ears, my mom has it on her scalp...along with my brothers too, my older soster has a mild case, and I get it once in awhile it will flare up on my left palm and in between my fingers...no cure for it, just creams and lotions.

I hope some of this info helped you.

Take care, & here's to breathing easy!

Re: Kids with asthma

I have asthma and recently discovered that common househould products trigger asthma. There are products being made which are chemical and toxic free. Regular products such as household cleaners, shampoo, toothpaste, and makeup, have poisonous toxins and chemicals for their ingredients. The products that I buy are made with no chemicals or toxins whatsoever! Since I've changed my house into a mostly chemical free environment, problems with my asthma decreased dramatically! I haven't used my inhaler in 3 months.

If you'd like more information about the products....or anything else related to MomsWin, here is the thread where you can ask our "webmom", Amanda.

My 5 year old grandson has asthma. When I got him in June 2009, he could barely breath. He started out needing breathing treatments every 4 hours. Now, he takes Advair (2 puffs) every morning and if needed another 2 puffs at night. He takes 2 puffs of Xopenex as needed during an asthma attack.

His asthma is different. He does not wheeze during an attack but rather he coughs. He sounds like he is choking on his spit. Some children just stop breathing and no sound as a warning. He is barely starting to get old enough to understand when he needs a rescue inhaler.

I got him under a traumatic situation and for medical neglect so I wasn't surprised that he was too scared to go anywhere by himself, he was having nightmares, and telling me that there were monsters and aliens in his room. Come to find out, Singulair can cause hallucinations and delusions. Once I took him off, with doctor permission, he stopped having the nightmares and stopped screaming at night because of the monsters and aliens. He still won't go potty alone so the year and a half of hallucinations will take awhile to recover from.

When we took him off the Singulair, the doctor told us to put him on Clariton.

He usually has asthma attacks if he is too hot, like when he is outside in the summer, when he plays too hard (but not every time), and when he is upset. I don't restrict his play unless he is having problems. We recently moved from one state to another and in this new state, he doesn't seem to need the evening inhaler or rescue inhaler as often.

MY now 16yo has been diagnosed since he was 4. When we were on a trip down south to the snow one year (he was 2) he did nothing but constantly cough, just a cough, nothing to set off any alarms to me. I mentioned this to a doc a couple of years later and he said asthma. His is brought on by cold weather changes and hayfever can bring it on also. He as is my other son is allergic to grass seeds (when mowing the yard) pollens, chlorine in pools and cat hair set them off on this, I know it sounds weird but it's also related to eczema and other things, odd how our bodies react. It's also hereditary.

DeBora Cameron is more like your case. He's not in winter but more the coming into and going out of winter and the cool weather changes set him off, no wheeze either.

He used to have flixotide a preventative (steroid based, and a lot of rules for use) then his ventolin, now ventolin is enough
