October 2005 Friendship Flower Thread

I am coming here to today filled with so much hope!!!! First off when I opened up our local paper last night there was a half page article on Irlens(which is what Jamie has) This was the catalyst I needed to get farther ahead with the service clubs for some help with funding. It looks like our local Lions club will give some as well as 300 from the civitan club. This helps to shoulder that 1000 dollar cost that we still owe to the person we borrowed from.
Second was finally my meeting with the school regarding Jamie and this condition and all the struggles we are still seeing. He is finding it easier to read but his short term memory is very poor and he can not remember what he did at school when he brings homework home. As you can imagine this is frustration on both of our parts. Now the principal and spec teacher are going to make sure that his teacher writes a very detailed list of exactly what is for homework and that i have all the resources to help him. An example is that he brings home his science book with 6 copied sheets....his agenda says science homework. Jamie can not tell me what he has to do or how much. With this new ruling the teacher will have to write in his agenda which questions etc. Also they said he is happier socially this year but there is still frustration in class so they have asked for psyc-ed testing. I was so glad as I think something else maybe wrong and if this is the case then we will be able to get more help and implement the tools to help him!!! I just want to give him the best steps to achieve the best that he can be. antyways as you can tell I am very happy with the results of my meeting and with our new principal.

Debbie yes we had a wonderful thanksgiving, good food, wonderful weather and lots of family. We had so much to be thankful for!. Glad to hear Jamie and your hubby are doing well. Wow on Jennifer and her swimming. Wish I could eat like that!!!

BarBar glad that your Canada day worked out well and that everyone learned something new. Did you get your car fixed yet????

Now I know why I wasnt getting any email notices for this thread, its OCtober, lol!! Wow huge "gator" I did the same with the attachment thing Margaret, so dont feel bad, now we both know, lol. Lita I LOVE your Boyds Teddy bear siggy, I actually have him in my collection, thought I had a picture of him to post but I dont, will have to start taking more pictures, now that I finally got a new printer, I decided to get the 3 in one, with the printer,scanner, and copier, because I have soo many pictures that arent on cd's and I dont have nor do I want a dig camera, so now with the scanner, it works out great, I just have to take more pix, Im so used to taking the videocam, everywhere and forgetting my camera.Well its STILL raining, and chilly and damp here, I swear I dont think its ever gonna end,right now its not raining much just that little bit of srpinkle to make it terribly damp,and soggy. Glad you had a good eye check up Margaret, my mom had the laser surgery done for a cataract and ws doing great until she had a fall last year, and damaged her eye in the fall, and she still doesnt have full vision in that one eye, and makes us all a nervous wreck because she continues to drive, and I think she is saying she can see better than she really can, so I made my dad promise to get her back to the eye dr., so she is going next week.
Well hope you all have a nice wkend, Dona Marie have a safe trip to Pittsfield, I think thats about an hour and half from us (not too sure) I have been there, and also went on a hot air balloon ride there,and to the festival they have evey year there, havent gone in a few years though. DeBora, glad you passed your test, and to everyone else enjoy the weekend, I just didnt read all the back posts well, I need to catch up on alot of threads here, because dh was home with a cold for 2 days I got behind in EVERYTHING,why is it I cant get much done when he is home, lol.?

Just reading and finding out what this Sweetest Day is about I've heard of it but
never really knew about it...

Thank you for the Sweetest Day greetings and for sharing the story behind it. I bet there are so many countless little deeds that people have done and have become a part of a ritual for some that people have just never found out about. It is more blessed to give than to receive, isn't that how the saying goes. How sweet to be so thoughtful and giving.

Sandie, since you love that sig of the bear and I am assuming it is the one with my name?....would you like me to get you one? I have a feeling you have alot of fall sigs anyway....lol, but what's one more....

I'm on a break from homeschooling so I thought I would pop in and see if I can add to the posts.

I realize that I focus more on my dd than my 3 year old son. It's hard to get him to do something without continual supervision. So I am at a loss right now. I tend to let him just play with his blocks because he loves to build with them, and let him watch some of his favorite videos. But I am not doing the flashcards as much I did before. Maybe I should divide the day's attention to him after I am done with the older one. Like give 5 hours for the one and then 2 to 3 for the younger while the older is free to do other things. So that's like 8 am to 1 or 2pm and then focusing the next couple of hours with him before dh arrives. Hmmmm, that looks like a lot of time spent on his own though. Believe me I have tried to have them both doing something at the same time but the older may on occasion need further instruction on something and you all know how it goes. Okay, I better think some more....

Lita, I had a hard time when my youngest was in preschool homeschool too! Hard to keep the little one busy and help the older ones. I don' tremember how I dealt with it. Maybe you could have your son do some craft work, play doh or write with his fingers in shaving cream while you are helping dd?

After I ordered the carpet, FIL threw a fit and refused to pay for it. I could and did stop the order and now dh and I need to figure out what in the world to do with this floor. Dh was very angry with his father and let him know that. For once dh set bounderies with his dad and let him know that he had gone over them. From the sounds of FIL grumbling, there won't be any carpet OR pay for labor OR money for the rest of the storm damage. And FIL wonders why we don't pay rent? We will have to pay for all of this stuff. New rain gutter, new door, paint for the house, flooring..... on top of what else we have been maintaining and repairing. Oh, I did not tell FIL that I canceled the carpet order. I figure let him stew for a while over it. Dh will be giving his dad a bill for all the labor he provided this summer but I think the money is already in a CD so we won't see a penny. Don't think dh will be helping his dad anymore either. FIL has money of his own PLUS the insurance checks to pay for everything... he wants dh over there doing it all and thanking him for a $30 check here and there. I did asked dh if he had finally gotten his belly full? This is the way your dad is. We can't change him. But we don't have to take it either. Sad all FIL cares about is money for when he needs it.... in a nursing home. He has ran off most of the family because of it. He will be a lonely old man in the nursing home.

I am so sorry that your FIL cannot see what he is doing in his relationships. It's admirable that he will want to be in a nursing home and not to burden anyone but still. And this makes me think that I better be really nice to my children, especially when they are much older and can make a substantial contribution to my life. They contribute to my life such joy and challenges but you know what I mean.

As for my side of the family, I have asked that I not be bothered for a while but that I have forgiven the comment made to me. And I also demoted myself to become just a member instead of the owner of the yahoo family group we have for my dm and all her siblings and their children and relatives. I just need some time to myself and though I know how important it is to "keep bridges", there is still a time in one's life when being left alone serves them better than being with company that just brings the worst out of them. I love my family and appreciate them, but they can definitely take me for granted and that hurts.

Wow! That is one huge gator!

DebK! That is so fortunate! I can imagine your excitement! I am glad they are testing Jaimie. If there are any underlying problems, they can be treated before they build up. Any normal healthy child would feel some aspects of stress from the frustration that he must be feeling. I am crossing my fingers that everything continues to lead in the positive direction. Good luck!

Sandie, I know how missing 2 days here can be! It takes forever to get caught up on everything.

Lita, I remember homeschooling my 2 kids. They were complete opposites as well as the fact that my son had some problems (which was why we were homeschooling in the first place)> He had/has Tourette's Syndrome, so "class" got loud and distracful at times. He was/is ADHD was caused a trememdous amount of problems. However, the WORSE was the 2 hour battles I'd have with him over a 15 minute assignment. Although he knew he could go out and play as soon as he was finished--he still fought me tooth and nail. My DD on the other hand would finish all her homework after I'd finish explaining concepts and such to her and BEG me for more math work! Go figure! lol All I can say is that I am so glad they are grown. Homeschooling was very rewarding, but also very challenging. Keep up the good work. The one thing I learned above all else Rita, was that on bad days when no learning was taking place--I just hung up the towel. On good days when we had our momentum was happening, I could afford to cover several days of curriculum. Public schools cannot do this.

Well, I am so pooped and am ready to go to sleep now. It is raining and thundering. Jet-Bo is terrified of rain and thunder and is hiding. lol I am up late as he is also very swollen in his abdomen, which is also hard. I can tell by his eyes and the fact that he is shivering that he is hurting. Plus, he is walking like he has a grapfruit in his belly. So, I am hoping that it is only constipation from the change in his diet.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! I'm so glad that it has waited until the weekend to rain as I am a desert rat and like it hot and dry! I am a spoiled sissy and would hate to walk all over campus in the rain. lol

Good morning everyone, DebK I too am thrilled about the things for Jamie. Good luck with everything.

I have been getting FC cards as well as others and I appreciate all of them.

I will be leaving here sometime around noon to go off for the day and into nite with Susie. Her b'day is tomorrow and mine as you know Monday so we are celeberating today. Going out to eat this evening at the Grate Steak for a FREE dinner. We signed up for this couple-three years ago so now it is a yearly thing for us. GOOD food too. And we will just do diff things that both of us need/want to get done before and after dinner.

Sandie what brand name did you get on your scanner. I'm sitll wanting one and maybe one of these days I will be able to get one, but first things first, and scanner is down on the bottom somewhere

today is a beautiful day. when John gets in from work, got to go to the grocery store to shop, and to do a few other errands... lovely. LOL

need to be up cleaning but you can tell I'm not yet, but will do that shortly.
my phone been busy ringing off the hook today it seems, one of those days.

Bluebird, I remember the time my real dad promised me a house, and he bailed out on it.. It broke my heart... but he done the same thing to me on many othe occassion, but the house was the one that really got to me.
we had a long talk about it, and I had to swoller hard to agree after a long battle of saying NO to my self and staying in prayer about him moving in with me... As I didn't want that man to live with me, knowing what I did about him.
NO way but finally I gave in... then we started the search of looking for houses, found one but it was more than he wanted to spend. What he wanted to give was going to be hard to fine along with following his rules of what he did want.
When we found it, I called him up and guess what? He already bailed out to do something else such as moving into his rent house across the street with the folks who was paying rent to him, and he was going to pay them to take care of him.... boy was I upset..

In due time I realize it was a prayer being answered... For GOD knew better than for us to move in together.

When he passed away, that was when we were able to get this house. and all was goig well, until that dark day of one thing after another. John's health went down hill later, and we been stuggling to save this one we got. GOD is still carring us thru the dark times, and we now sure of what will face us with this house.... but for now we still got it...

so remember when GOD shuts a window HE opens a door, so maybe with your fil saying no, there is a reason that will be reveal to you later.
