Hello & Help!

Hello all!

My name is Jackie; I have a 4yr old son. I found this site while looking for parenting sites that might give me an insight into what I am going through right now. I was recently told by my child's teacher that while he was examined, they found that he might not be up to date to his counterparts and they suggested that I have him tested, which we are going to do (got the appointment and all) the weird thing is that some the stuff they mentioned that he is not doing he does them at home all the time. I am very confused and scare - have any of you had to have your child tested? If you did, can you please share what that experience was like and what can I expect.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Desperate Mom.

Hi Jackie
I am new too! But my son started Kindergarten early and I had him tested as well.
Here are a few questions:
Is he nervous of his behavior in the classroom?
Is it a social situation IE: an introvert?
I would be only be scared if you feel there is something substantially different in his behavior with you and the teacher. If your child is nervous or anxious he might just get a bit confused when asked to do a specific task ( even if it is an easy one) n the school setting when at home he is confident and relaxed!

Also, and more importantly you are the mother you know your child, don't let the 'experts' label him if you don't 100% agree, get a second opinion reach out and ask millions of questions if you need too!

Hello and welcome to you both. FC is a great site and lots of wonderful threads here. The game ones will get your posts up if you would like to join SS or other clubs we have.
I agree with Crazywoody about the testing of your son Casmom. Get another opinion or two. You know your child better than others do

Casmom and Crazywoody, I want to officially welcome you to Family Corner.

Casmom, I am currently in graduate school learning how to do such testing. Also, my DS has Tourette's syndrome and he was ADHD, so we had to have him tested when he was 6. I wouldn't worry about the testing because he will probably enjoy the process. He will feel like someone is wanting to play with him and that will all it will be to him. Remember that you, as a parent, have a right to any and all information concerning results of the testing. You will be able to make better informed choices once you get the results of the test. I agree with the labeling as it can hang over his head forever. I would be cautious as to what you are willing to share with the school, for this reason. Decide what is beneficial before you give them information. The school is not entitled to his medical records, unless you allow them to have it. Is he your only child?

Crazywoody, how many children do you have and what are their ages?
