I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I'm a grandmother to nearly 5 grandchildren. I have been separated for 16 years.
I work full time with intellectually disabled adults, a very challenging position..
My interest are varied and includes animals (I have a dog, Tessa and 3 pet rats, Joshua, Ruben and Obsidian), crafts (mainly cross stitching), container gardening, reading, walking and most of all my family.
It's very nice to meet you! Very happy that you decided to re-join us! This is my absolute favorite "stop" on the web! This is a great place to make friends and find support. Everyone here is like a great big family.
When you say that you have pet "rats".....what kind of rats are we talking about? Something similar to gerbils and hamsters?? My 20 y.o. DD has a mini doxie that I take care of more than she does. Other than that, we have no pets in our home. The two DS & I are all highly allergic to cats and when DD was 8 yrs old, we had a bad experience with a pair of Mongolian gerbils. I want to get the two DS a dog but we just can't seem to make up our minds as to what breed. Due to the two DS severe asthma, we can only have a pure bred animal or I would gladly adopt one from the local humane society. I am torn between a Boxer and a Boston Terrier. The two DS want a lab. What I would LOVE to have is a Labradoodle but they are WAY out of our price range!
I'd like to extend an invitation for you to join us at a few threads. Click on any of the links below and it will take you to different threads/subjects around the site. Once there, just click on "post reply" and jump in with both feet! You'll have fun, meet some great people and just have an all around good time. If you ever need some extra help just click on the "pm" button at the bottom of my post and send me a private message. I'll do all that I can to lend a helping hand!
Friendship Flower Thread this is the only thread that does not have a designated subject. At this thread, you can talk about anything (within reason) without having to worry about getting off-topic! By posting, we "grow" a flower. We start out with an empty pot and end up with a gorgeous flower/plant. We never know what we're going to end up with but we have yet to be disapppointed!
Frugal Living? While I don't actively participate in this forum, I do "lurk" there often. It's amazing some of the frugal ideas those ladies have and the deals they get!
Kids Postcard Swap Do you have children that would love to swap post cards with other member's children? If so, this is the place to go! A minimum of 75 posts is needed to join but you can get those in no time!

Welcome to all the newbies! I'm Kellydid, 54, mother to two grown sons, 33 and 23 respectively, both married and grandmother to a very handsome, smart 9 year old grandson, Liam. (I am not prejudice at all!) LOL I will celebrate my 26th wedding anniversary in May to my wonderful husband.
If there's anything I can do for any of you, please don't hesitate to ask.
You are going to have such fun here! This is my favorite site on the web!
Again, welcome! Grab your favorite beverage, pull up a chair and begin gabbing!
Hello Storm, Welcome. I hope that you enjoy the groups. Bless you and your precious children I'm glad that you have immersed yourself in advocating for your son. My son is 6 and has bi-polar and ADHD. He can be sooooooooo sweet, thoughtful, and sooooooo loving- he gives the best hugs and kisses i believe a child can give, until things don't go to suit him, and then it's a whirlwind.! It is times like these that I remind myself that this is the one I prayed for. My daughter and I would say prayers at bedtime, and she would say "Dear Jesus, please bring me a baby brother". I just wanted one more child. When it's over, he's so repentant. God love his little heart.
You certainly have tried to take the bull by the horns, and remember-it doesn't matter how many roads you pave, how many buildings you construct, or how much money you have. You will be loved and praised for making a difference in the life of a child.
I will certainly remember you. May you be blessed with teachers that are willing to love and nuture your special child and help him grow to his full potential.

Hi there lene1 and welcome to Family Corner! This is the nicest corner of the Internet I hope you enjoy your time here!
Storm, don't be surprised! We have a wonderful "unofficial welcoming committee" here, and I'll bet you find helpful and friendly folks all over these forums. It's why I enjoy this site SO much
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I have spent a lot of time looking through the site and its many forums. Can't wait till I have enough posts to join the post card swap and lots of others.
My pet rats are just that. RATS! They are the Rattus Norvegicus (sp?) species, which has been domesticated for over 200 years. Rats are very social animals, and bond quickly with humans. They are intelligent and easy to train.
Here's a photo of Joshua's father
Cheers
Lene
