Hi everyone. This is my second attempt on a forum (think that is the right terminology, is it? ) I tried in a chat room a few minutes ago but nobody was there or I was doing something very wrong!! Thought I would be clever now and use a smilie but it just came up with the word confused....so right. I think the idea of grouping people in a common area together is a great one. I see that I am a misc. Oh well, guess somebody has to be and it might as well be us. I have very few computer skills so I hope you will all bear with me if I make any mistakes or break any unwritten laws of protocol. I am really looking forward to posting here regularly if I can ever find my way back again LOL. I live in Melbourne, Australia and have three grownup sons who have all left home.......Just the two of us and the cat and dog. Rather nice after all those hectic years of child-raising. Have a fantastic little grand-daughter who has just turned four years old...just a delight! Hope to hear from a few more of you misc in the near future.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Amanda. I am so thrilled with myself that I could actually send a message through cyberspace and have it arrive where I intended it to go As I am very new to all this I still feel amazed with all this magic new technology. I feel like the world has become my neighbourhood....I am still like WOW about it all. Look forward to making lots of new misc friends LOL Think I finally mastered the smilies by the end of my previous post . I actually managed to sneak one in there at the very end! Very impressive, don"t you think? My oh my, I have just learnt so much in one day.
G'DAY, CulinaryJen,
So pleased that you have taken such an interest in our BEAUTIFUL country over the years. It really is such an incredible country of such beauty and diversity.....from rainforest to desert, sheltered inlets to raging oceans, tiny little towns to huge cities like Sydney and Melbourne, snow covered mountains and shimmering heat. You could spend a lifetime exploring the place and still only scratch the surface. As well there is the uniqueness of our Flora and Fauna, and the huge differences in the many people here....from the many different aboriginal people from many areas as well as all the other races of people who go to make up our multicultural nation. The English, Italian, Greek, Chinese, Vietnamese, Irish, Welsh, just to name a few. We are very keen caravanners so we have been lucky enough to see much of the country over the years, and look forward to seeing a lot more in years to come. We can't wait for retirement when we will spend a year or two on the road just going wherever we feel like We are heading off later in the winter to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, about two days north of here. We thought we would follow the sun. We will take the caravan and will be visiting my MIL who lives in Maroochydore on the coast. Then we will take our time coming back. We will be away about a month altogether so we are looking forward to that. Now to send this message! I typed a message a few minutes ago (no mean feat with my two finger typing), went to send it and it just disappeared. Oh well, so I am not as clever as I thought I was. Never mind, I'll try again. Here goes.
I'm an American living in England. I'm married to a Brit and have two wonderful sons. I was curious about the miscellaneous category and after reading your posting, I felt I had to reply.
I've never been forunate to visit your country but I've always been impressed by the friendliness and charm of the Australians I've met.
As you probably know, we get the TV series, "Neighbours" here in the U.K. and it's so popular that it's on twice a day! I love it! It's nothing like the depressing, gloomy British soap operas and It's much more realistic than the American soaps.
This forum is a great way to "meet" new people and "chat" isn't it?
Hello there,Sunshine,
So pleased to hear from somebody in beautiful England. I too am married to a Brit who migrated to Australia with his parents when he was 11. We finally visited England four years ago and had a wonderful time catching up with his family. He hadn't seen his father for 35 years (his mother remarried before emigrating and he was adopted by his stepfather). We also visited his brother after not seeing him for 32 years and met his wife and children. Visited aunts and uncles and lots of cousins... a fantastic but very emotional time. We really fitted a lot in to our 3 1/2 weeks. We hired a car and went up to Scotland and spent a week touring. We fell in love with the island of Iona and have promised ourselves a return visit if we can ever afford it. We also spent some time in the Lake District in England, at Stockton, Manchester, Sale, Southport, and Blackpool(loved the illuminations) Wiggan, Norwich, and of course London which I found really interesting, VERY expensive and overwhelmingly busy. I love the little English villages, they just look like something out of a painting with their little pubs and tiny shops, just delightful. We also managed to find time to hire a car for a day and travel from Manchester to Wales just for one day. What a shame there is never enough time to do all the things you would like when you are on holidays. Still, I guess it is nice to leave some of the highlights for next time Yes, I agree this is a great place to meet people. It is the only place I have been game to use. Everyone seems so friendly! Look forward to meeting lots more people from all over. Are there any Aussies out there in cyberland???? How about catching up.;-) Glad you like our soapies. By the way, I am a Maureen too. Not many of us under 40 these days, are there?
HELP!!!!! I think I have done a really dumb thing. I pressed on the unsubscribe thingo on my email by mistake. What have I actually done The next BIG question is .... What do I do now. Hope someone can help this computer challenged person, can they?
I, also, would love to go to England! I am British descent, and have had a desire to go to England, Scotland and Ireland since I was small. I have family there too! There's something about countries that have a history!
And I love meeting people in places like this, as I am a stay at home mother in a new state, and it is sometimes nice to meet other friends when I can't leave the house (nap time, sick time etc.)!
About Australia: my penpal sent my son a book and a stuffed animal for his first Christmas..."Waltzing Matilda" and a wombat! He loves those!
I hope when I visit and I can get a real boomerang, so I canhang it on my wall here at home!
