Hi to you both Lavenderblue and Sunshine,
I'm new in this site and I'm already enjoying reading you all.
I see that you're both into reading and I need some book titles and authors. Could you help
I am mainly interested in clean literature with adventure and travels and I don't mind love as long as it's clean. I find itso difficult to find good literature these days. So much junk on sale and I can read both french and English
Thanks a lot and I hope to hear from you soon

Welcome!

Hello Caponata!

Welcome to the forum! I would recommend all the books by Bill Bryson. He is an American travel writer and he writes about places he has lived in or visited and they are very informative as well as entertaining and funny. The one about his experience living in England is called "Notes From a Small Island" , and the one about his travels across America is called, "The Lost Continent" He has one out about Australia as well but I can't recollect the name of it right now.

I don't know if you enjoy contemporary novels about relationships but if so, Iwould recommend all the books by Maeve Binchy. She writes incredible stories about women and her characters are very vivid and real. The author is Irish and most of her stories are set in Ireland. My favorite one by her is called "Tara Road" but I would also recommend "The Glass Lake" and "Scarlet Feather". Another good author is Rosamunde Pilcher.I think you would enjoy, "The Shell Seekers" and "Winter Solstice" and "Coming Home" by her.

I have just started reading a book called "Crow Lake" by Mary Lawson. I will tell you about it when I've finished it.

I will think of some more books to recommend and let you know.

Anyway, I hope I've been of some help. Happy reading!

Bye for now.

Hi Caponata!

I would LOVE to go to Provence! In fact, I love Peter Mayle's books about Provence!

I, also, agree with Maureen, Bill Bryson is SO funny!

I've remembered the name of the book about Australia by Bill Bryson. It's called, "Down Under".

Just in case...!

Question Caponata

I have a question!

In 1985 - 1986, I was living in Buenos Aires. I saw a French film starring Catherine Deneuve. She was a wife and mother (to two children?) and she was having an affair with someone. The movie ends where she goes back to her family. I really loved the movie, but missed a lot of details (as the movie was subtitled in Spanish, and at the time, I could not speak French OR read Spanish!). The title in Spanish was "Amandonos" which means "Loving Each Other". The unfortunate thing is titles are never translated the same...so I have never been able to find this movie so I could watch it again.

Does this movie sound familiar to you?

Jen

Hi and sorry I don't recall the movie but i'll try to get the name for you. I travel a lot and do not get to see many french films! But I shall ask around and let you know if I get lucky. I know what you mean about bad translations we'd hope that with all the technology available they'd be able to do a better job! You'll hear again from me soon.
