Hello from me

Hi
I live in Wigan. I have been a foster carer for the past 18 yrs. I have 4 children, 7 grandchildren and looked after many, many more, hence my username. I love my computer and spend many (perhaps too many) hours surfing the net. Love to hear from you all.

Hello Mumtomany!

I love your username! It certainly is appropriate after reading your explanation.

I am an American but have been living in England for 15 years. My husband is British and we have two wonderful sons. The oldest is 13 and in Year 8. The youngest is 10 and in Year 5,

We live in a small town in Hertfordshire. It's about halfway between London and Cambridge.

I also love the computer. I spend so much time surfing the net that my housework is forgotten. LOL.

I hope you aren't disappointed that I'm not actually British.

Bye.

Maureen

Hi Maureen

Not dissapointed at all. Happy to meet you. Surfing is strange, you meet people from all over the world and its just as though they are somewhere near, distance is irrelevant. Yet when you find someone who is living within the same country it suddenly becomes relevant, 200 miles or so becomes 'close' . I am from 'up North' halfway between Manchester and Liverpool.

Cheers
Mal

Wigan

Hi Mumtomany,

Hope you don't mind me replying to your post even though I don't live in England. When I saw that you were from Wigan I just had to say Hi.

Two of my dearest friends here in Australia came from Wigan. When I visited England about four years ago they insisted that I find time to visit Wigan, particularly Wigan Pier. I did so and took lots of photos to show them both but unfortunately Jack became very ill while I was away and passed away soon after, but Phyllis was delighted with the memories. They belonged to a group here in Australia known as the wigan Piers and were all such a friendly, cheerful bunch. Any excuse for a knees-up!

We spent quite a bit of our time in Sale with my FIL so we were lucky enough to see quite a bit of the surrounding countryside near Wigan We will spend more time exploring the area when we come next time. This time we spent a lot of time catching up with rellies.

I hope you get as much pleasure out of life as all the other Wiganers I have had the pleasure of meeting. So nice to catch up with another one.

Hi Mal,

I haven't actually been to Wigan or Manchester or Liverpool, unfortunately. I don't really know anything about Wigan. I do know that the Beatles were from Liverpool of course. What do you think of Paul McCartney getting married to Heather MIlls? She's a lot younger than him. I hope it works out because he deserves to be happy after his first wife died so tragically.

What did you think of the Jubilee celebrations? I thought it was all so amazing and beautiful. The royal procession in London was spectacular! The British really know how to do all that wonderful pageantry. It was wonderful to see so many English flags and Union Jacks. I've never seen so much patriotism here before.

The World Cup is exciting as well and I'm not even a fan of football. LOL! It was fantastic when England beat Argentina.

We're not having much in the way of summer weather, are we? I still can't get used to all the rain here even after living here for 15 years. LOL. Mind you, what would we all complain about otherwise? LOL.

Bye for now.

Maureen

Hello S~Mac

What part of the UK are you living in? Are you here permanently? What state are you from? Are you married to a Brit? How do you like living in the UK?

Look forward to hearing from you!

Hello Sunshine,
I am living here permanently. I live in the village of Croxley Green near Rickmansworth and Watford just north of London. I married a Brit from Scotland originally. I am originally from Georgia. I like living here okay. It's different from what I was used to. What are you doing here? What part do you live in?

Hi S~Mac

I'm here because I married a Brit too. We live in a small town in Hertfordshire. It's near the town of Hertford so you aren't really very far away. Have you met any Americans living in your area? I don't know any around here. In fact, all my friends are British.

It's an adjustment to live here, isn't it? I'm very happy most of the time but I still miss America and my family and friends back home.

Hello Sun,
I haven't met any Americans living here and I've been here 1 1/2 years but I work all the time so don't socialize much. How long have you been over here? Do you know where I can buy some American foods that I really miss? It really is an adjustment. I hate the washing machines here. Too small. Thanks.
