I really like all the books by author Iyanla Van Zant. My favorite is called "Yesterday I Cried."

From the back of the book:
"Bestselling author Iyanla Van Zant has had an amazing and difficult life- one of the great challenges that unmasked her wonderful gifts and led to wisdom gained.
In this simple book, she uses her own personal experiences to show how life's hardships can be re-languaged and revisioned to become lessons that teach us as we grow.
The pain of the past does not have to be today's reality.
Iyanla is an example of how yesterdays tears become the seeds of today's hope."

You may also remember her from the show called "Starting Over" where she was a Life Coach.

Though I did not live anywhere near the traumatic life that she did we all have our heartaches and hurts. Reading about how she came out of her very abusive past gave me a lot of hope and encouragement.

Click on the following link to read her poem, which is also the title of her book"
Yesterday I Cried.

I still find the books, "Personality Plus" and "Hinds Feet to High Places" to be of the most benefit in my personal life.

I liked Suzi Orman's "Women & Money" book that I had gotten from the library. I have seen her on talk shows, too. She lets women know what they need to do to get their financial needs in order.

It seems odd no one mentioned The Secret; here in Europe, it's must read.

It's not one of my faves, though.

I love "Don't sweat the small stuff - and it's all small stuff", from Richard Carlson, "In Praise of Slow", from Carl Honore (a must-must-must read!!), and my favorite, "The Monk who sold his Ferrari" from Robin S. Sharma.
I just finished reading "The Celestine Prophecy", and I'm re-reading the last one I mentioned. I'm in a stage in which I need to find myself and to prioritize things in my life - I just went trough a bad path (you know, when everything seems to go from bad to worse? And then it gets "worser"?), and I need to (re)find myself. I find self help books to be a handy and helpfull tool...

Fatima, our family is in that worser bend in the road right now.

Friendships of Women by Dee Brestin is very helpful to me. I started a bible study on FC this week.

Hi Bluebird!

I feel I'm doing what I should to find myself now. Some days are worse than others, but one's gotta believe that, in the end, thing do past and evolve... problems get solved by life, if one doesnt get too anxious to solve them before time.

Sure we cant lay down and wait for thing to happen... but rushing things doesnt work either!

My signature quote used to be "time does not forgive what you do without it". What about that for a motto?

Hugs,

Waiting is hard. Hurry up and wait. Things will happen when God so chooses them to happen.

I too have had value from the book, The Friendships of Women.

I also enjoyed Open Heart, Open Home.

Mostly now if I am reading non fiction it is Leadership books and mostly then to do with Kids Ministry. I am enjoying one at the moment that is challenging some of my long term habits!
