I thought Garden State was an excellent movie. It was written and directed by Zack Braff (he is in the tv show Scrubs) and he also stars in the movie. It also stars Natalie Portman. It is rather quirky but a good movie nonetheless.
1. Kill Bill - Quentin Tarantino directs
2. Mr and Mrs Smith - Brad PItt and Angelina Jolie in lovers quarrel
3. War of the Worlds, original 1950s version
4. Life As a House - EXCELLENT, cried before half of it was over and still getting tearyeyed
5. Meet the Fockers - HILARIOUS, and getting to see Barbra Streisand was neat
I was thinking of netflix but after reading posts think we will stick with our local rental store ($1.99 to 0.99 for 24 hours each DVD).

Ellen, I loved My Life as a House - thought it was excellent! I have also seen Mr. & Mrs. Smith but would love to know if you liked Kill Bill because I have been tempted to rent it but haven't yet as I wasn't sure if it was worth seeing. This weekend I rented Final Destination 2 - not the greatest but ok, Just Like Heaven - cute but not as good as I had expected and Saw 2. I thought Saw 1 was better - both were gruesome but the first was more suspenseful. Meet the Fockers was hilarious. Nice to see Streisand back in her comedic roots. Can you imagine a mother like that?? LOL
Hi Sammi, Kill Bill was violent and graphic but I watched it because of Quentin Tarantino. At first I was really put off by the brutality of women being killers, but then began to see his trademarks, violence with mockery humor (like when an arm is cut off, the way the blood spurts out) and also his innovations, like using anime and how he used byproducts of it later in the film. Also, like a novel often has a symbolic figure, he uses red as imagery throughout, in pictures in the background on the wall, in lip colors, in garments, look for how many you can find. What I didn't like was the violence, to get around it I became so analytical that I was an observer to the film and unsympathetic to the characters in the film.
I would like to see Elizabethtown but was afraid it was a mutual gaze fest without plot. Is this true or is there some redeeming values in it? I like to see those two film stars though. The dd saw E Town and thought it was fluffy, but maybe there were adult themes they were missing?

Ellenmellon,
Yes E.Town was a little fluffy, and yes I think an adult would appreciate it more! I did like it!
Tried to watch Kill Bill with dh before, defintly NOT my kind of movie. Way to violent!
We watched Flight Plan and Apartment 12 over the weekend. Neither of them thrilled me! Apartment 12 was defintly an Independent film with a very low budget.
I loved Life As a House, it is defintly a tear jerker! Just keep a box of tissue handy!
A boy at the party last night was telling me about Flight Plan. Sounded like a good movie, basic plot, etc...I will definitely look at Elizabethtown with two gf.
Looking forward to O Brother Where Art Thou on TBS tonight.
