Pop-up Ads

Are you getting tired of all the pop-up-ads? You know the ones that block your view when you are trying to read...I hate these things, do you??? Does anyone know of an easy fix?

pop-up ads

I totally agree with you, those ads are very bothersome. I have found no way to get rid of them either, and it never fails they pop-up when you are right in the middle of something.

Good Luck, Karen

I agree, I've been getting a ton each time I come on to Family Corner recently. It takes forever to close them out just to shut down the machine. If anyone knows how to get rid of them, please let use know. Very annoying.

You shouldn't be receiving pop ups on the boards. On the website itself, yes, but not on the boards.

As for why I have them, it costs a lot of money to run a site of this magnitude. Did you know that there are over 2,500 pages of recipes ALONE in the cookbook database and over 3,000 pages of content? That doesn't even count the message boards!

Unfortunately, advertisements generate revenues that help absorb the costs I incur each month. The more people that visit, the more bandwidth I use, the more money the server charges me. While I hate pop ups too, they are unfortunately a necessary evil.

Funny thing is, I removed the pop up ads for over 2 months and did not receive one single email from anyone thanking me for taking them down. The only emails I ever get about the pop ups are the complaints. The amount of time that it takes me on a daily basis to go through reports and decline pop up ads that don't pay very much is far too time consuming, especially since they continually add more to the rotation, it's a never ending battle.

So, since the pop ups generate income (small as it may be) and the website is free to all visitors, I have decided that the pop ups are here to stay.

My only other choice would be to make this a "subscription based" website, which would mean it would no longer be free to all, you would have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee for your membership.

I do want to take a moment to thank those that have donated funds out of their pocket to help keep this site free like it is. You can see who those generous members are by clicking on the flower below, or if you see a member with a yellow sunflower next to their name, that would indicate that they have donated in the past. Special thanks to nagymom for her continual support, she donates on a regular basis

If you have any other questions, please ask.

Hey everyone, I wasn't complaining about pop-ups on this site...I am usually on the message boards the most and haven't encountered any on the message boards.

I was more upset with the ones when you are say researching a reference and these silly ads pop up and there aren't any close buttons and right clicking doesn't work to and you are hostage to watch this short film....it blocks what you are trying to read, with about a 2 1/2 inch square, complete with loud music. lol

Pop Up Blocker

I happen to use Earthlink, and they offer Pop-up Blocker. I am not sure if it is only compatible with Earthlink software, but you could check out their web site and see if it is offered to those without Earthlink. I really like it. No more annoying pop up ads

Gee, I think I jinxed it...I am getting pop-ups, pop-unders and I am on the message boards! What a pain...this happens everytime I click. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Sorry Janet, I'm on my way out of town but wanted to respond to this. There are banners unfortunately that are running in my "no pop up code" that spawn pop ups! GRRRRR I have emailed the advertising dept about it. There is also a pop under for email newsletter subscriptions, that was the only one I wanted on here and it's only supposed to appear once per hour. Please have patience, I am working on it In the meantime, just minimize them and they should leave you alone. If you close them, they will only pop up again, minimizing them will hide them in the background.

See you Sunday!

I've removed my banner codes on the boards only until I return. Since you ladies are nice enough to donate, I will deal with this when I return Have a nice weekend!
