Anybody going to, or been to, their State or County Fairs?
Our Kern County Fair is held the end of September and I love going!!
I love the photography, baking and art exhibits, the baby piglets, corn dogs, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, caramel apples and people watching!!!
We are going to see the old group "America" perform this year!
I entered an essay in the writing exhibit on "Why I Love Bakersfield." It was challenging because it could only be one page and there was a whole lot more I wanted to say. I had to be to the point, but interesting and not waste any paper saying nothing!
I have been to State fairs in Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Springfield, IL. and Dallas!!!
I love fairs!!!
peace,train
All the years I lived in Texas, I never made it to the State Fair!
I don't even know if Louisiana has a State Fair...never heard anything about one in the 4 years we've lived here.
The town closest to us has a Crawfish Festival every May that has almost gotten to the size of a State Fair. I have never been to it due to the way the traffic going to it bottles up the town every year!
From the way you described a State Fair, trainlady, I'd like to go to one and check it out! With my luck, though, I'd go home 10 pounds heavier than when I got there!!!!
This is one you are familiar with! The Puyallup State Fair! Im going tomorrow to see Chris Cagle, and then on Wednesday to see Bill Cosby! Cant wait! I didnt get to go last year, so looking forward to it!
I have been to Bakersfield Fair alot of times, and also the Los Angeles County Fair all my growing up life! I used to dance there, at the Mexican Village stage, and also at Bakersfield's. The one thing I rememberabout Bakersfieds fair is, that around 900 or 1000pm, especially on a weekend, people would be asked to leave because the gangs would show up, and there would be a fight! And this was way over 30 years ago! Man I just dated myself!!
Hi Tortiemom! Are you "Tortie" As in a cat or guinea pig? I have a Tortie cat, sweetest thing on this earth! I have also had Tortie guinea pigs (44 in fact, at one time!) Because daughter was in 4H, and she and dad had to have the "perfect" one! Actually they did very well with them, and my daughter learned "the facts of life" in a animal kind of way!
This is not a fair but we just got back from taking the kids to a Renassaince Festival. They really had a good time and so did I. We saw Robin Hood and Little John reinacting thier frist meeting and had confetti all over us. We saw a joasting contest (fake, of course). The quenn herself stopped and talked with my little ones. 4 yr girl, 2 yr boy. They had Mother Nature spread fairy dust on thier heads. It rained most of the time that we was there but it wasn't to bad because it kept it cool. We will be going back next year!
YEA for the Puyallup fair!!! I was up there a few years ago to celebrate 25 years of freindship with a junior high friend!!! We went to the fair and I bought a T shirt there. It is fun to wear it down here and watch people try to pronounce Puyallup!!!
There is a lot more security at the fain nowadays co the crime is down but I wouldn't say always nonexistent. My husband and I will spend the day there usually when it is not so crowded;it's wall to wall teenagers at night...which is GREAT for THEM...I was one once myself...but nowadays we like a little less crowded!!!
Bowlergirl...what's your average? Mine is 127. I am not a good bowler but I do enjoy it very much, my husband is more the competitive one. My girlfriend on the team and I bring snacks to munch on and coupons to clip and exchange during bowling!!!
Drives my husband nuts!!! No, not really, he just laughs at me!!!
Hi trainlady! Thanks for the wonderful memory of Bakersfield fair! When I saw you mention Kern County, I knew that sounded familiar. We also hit Fresno County fair on our way back home from California. My uncle owns a carnival, and my dad was in the Ringling Brothers Barnum Baily Circus as a tight rope walker in his earlier days, so we seemed to hit every fair and circus that he could drag us to! But what sweet memories!
It brings back so much of when my father was alive, we lived in Aberdeen, but all our relatives lived in LA area, Pomona mostly. We went to LA County Fair every year, I got to start school a month later than everyone else! But I did have to do school work the month that we would be gone!
As far as bowling, Im in the competetive field of the sport. I LOVE IT! Bowling is still a blast to me, I still can have fun while alot of my teammates and competitors are way tooooo serious for me, but thats how the game goes for some. I do have to settle down and be some what serious during tourneys, but I still have fun. I had to take all last season off due to illness, so I pretty much just started get back into it slowly.
Do you ever go to Women's Nationals? I only go when its in Reno, which is this year! Cant wait! My bestest friend and bowling bud for years moved to Denver 2 years ago, and she is meeting us there to bowl! My hubby used to bowl alot, but hes more into golf now, and he coaches me, so that works!
Its really hard sometimes seeing bowlers way too serious about the game, I was President of our county's Womens association, and that was one thing I pushed for was to have fun and help out the newer bowlers so they can have fun and enjoy it instead of being pressured, or looked down upon cuz they werent as "good" as bowlers as they were! I have alot of women in my leagues that crochet, exchange recipes, coupons, etc! And Im right in there with them,(no crocheting though!) Keep up the good bowling!! And have fun!!!
Off to the fair! Doing the Puyallup! Meeting my daughter and her hubby there, they live in Seattle, so will be double fun, except the hubbys are in a bad mood cuz the Seahawks are playing! he he he!!!!
