What types of games did children play in medevial tmes?

I bought Elijah a pop-up castle for his birthday. Gabe keeps saying he is a knight, but of course they can't joust. Any ideas as to what games were played back in medevial times?

I went to ask.com and got the answer-they didn't do much.

Below is a small list of sites that Yahoo! brought after I searched for
"medieval children's games"

www.medieval.net/childrensgames.htm
hide, and, seek, seesaw, tag, walking, on, stilts, queek, stone, throwing, children's, games, Middle, ages, medieval, times.

www.historyforkids.org/learn/medieval/games
The games of medieval Europe were mainly the same as those of Egypt, Greece, and ... We also see more children's toys from this time: whistles and little dishes ...

www.medieval-life.net/games.htm
Medieval society indulged in a number of games and recreation, when the often harsh daily life permitted a break. Chess was widely popular and often a ...

This last one sort of surprises me being that it lists chess as one of the games - I don't know very many children who know how to play this game (I am certainly not one of them, and I've tried) - but maybe a semi form of checkers can be made from a chess / checker board and faux pieces could be used as the other pieces (rocking horse for the knight, Lego's for the rooke, etc).

I looked up bd party ideas that they could play together. Here are some ideas:

  • Ring the Bottle—or in this case, the Chalice—is always a favorite. To set this game up, arrange three or four empty bottles on the floor. Provide your guests with three large plastic or cardboard rings, giving them three tries to ring one or more of the bottles

  • Coins on a Plate is another skill game that kids will enjoy. Set a plate on the floor behind one of the booths and give each guest five or six pennies. Have them try to toss the penny onto the plate. If you use an old plate or a paper one, consider marking it like a dart board or an archery board, so players receive more points the closer they come to the bull's eye.
  • Nothing gets a Medieval party going like a round of The Goose and the Feather. To play, have your players sit in a circle, and tuck a large quill-type feather into the backs of their pants or shirts. Choose one player to be a fox who's hungry for a goose dinner. The fox walks around the outside of the circle and grabs a tail feather from one of the players. The goose must leap up quickly and try to catch the fox. If he catches the fox, he's saved and can go back to the circle. If the fox gets to the empty spot before the goose, the goose becomes the fox, and it's his turn to scramble for his supper!
  • Next, ask your guests if they ever heard of the 'Princess and the Pea' fairytale. Tell them it's their job to deliver the pea to the princess' bed. Give them each a spoon and place a single pea in it. Have them race to a predetermined finish line. Whoever gets there first with the pea still on his spoon, wins!

MEDIEVAL CRAFTS - I thought that this was so cute.

Before the knighting ceremony can begin, squires must extract a mini Excalibur to reveal their noble name. Plus, don't forget the Knight's Code of Honor, Rule #1: Never leave the castle without proper garb and your family crest.

There are tons of ideas on this page for games that the two of them could play and that you wouldn't actually need a bunch of kids to play them.

Hope they fun!!

Does anyone know what the pointed hat with the streamer is called that the ladies wear? I can picture it, but not describe it very well. I think in one episode of Dora the Explorer she wore one.
I've come up with a great idea for Ashley's baby shower since she is having a girl.

Not sure yet about the shower.
They already have 3 boys so I thought it might be nice to have a princess party to help mommy feel like a princess or even a Queen.
I'm trying to come up with all sorts of Princess ideas.

got a question-
what would you call the invitees to a princess party? Maid Marion-not married, what about a married woman, divorced woman, widowed, etc? I'm already making myself crazy trying to plan this shower. LOL.
