Computers

Hello,

Having a computer is great but I sure hate the SPAM!

How does anyone else feel about this? It really clogs up the inbox and deleting it gets to be a pain too! I have noticed that some of the unsubscribe buttons work but then the next day you have even more!

I keep on changing email services because not all have a filter to use, to get this junk out of the inbox.

Happy Computing!

Arrow Spam and email filtering

I like to use my Outlook Express and filter the emails. It's easier for me. Yahoo! does some but it's not the best filtering either.

I can only suggest the Outlook Express that's most likely on your computer system already. But it's only a suggestion.

Anyone else know of a few good freebie emails that have filters?

Kristin

Thanks KristenW, I will look around for different email services to use. I hate getting 49 emails about vitamins, mortgages, earn $6,000. a month at home etc..

If you are using outlook express, highlight the spam email, then go to--- message-------blocked sender.
Then that address can no longer get to you.
If you go to -----tools-------- message rules----------blocked senders list. In there you will see your list. If you receive alot of email's from one address (ex: me@you.com, you@you.com, he@you.com) highlight one of them and click modify then delete the first part of the address (me@) leaving just the last part ( you.com) and it will black any future email's coming from that address.

If you have to put in your e-mail address at a web page for some unknown reason add the word ''delete'' to your address ( me@delete.you.com). Humans can pick out the difference the computer can't. Then you receive no unwanted emails

Thanks Otheila!

I was using Netscape mail. I could not find a block senders options there, so I dumped all the trash and changed the services I wanted. I hate all this spam, there should be some rules in place for this. I found if you click on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a spam...then they must put your address out for all the creeps! Or half the time the unsubscribe link doesn't work. What a pain!

I will use the delete added to my address...didn't know about that.

Thanks again!

Would you buy the same brand?

If you were going to buy another computer, would you buy the same brand? I have a Gateway computer and it fine for me, but next time I want one with a CD-burner and a dvd, more memory, and a Pentium 4. What is on your wishlist?

On the Dollar Stretcher site I signed up for a newsletter for the Computer Lady. It is great! So if you want to learn more about computers, check it out! You can even submit questions. Remember there are no dumb questions? lol

I have had a couple of friends that got their computer zapped in a thunderstorm eventhough they had a surge protector. Some didn't have the coverage in their house insurance...I made a quick call to my agent to make sure mine was covered...it is! So maybe you might want to check with your insurance agent and make sure you are covered. You know your rack up alot of $$$ with your system, then add a modem, scanner, printer, any external hookups, like extra speakers...wow! I sure don't want my system getting zapped.

Best Email

Janet and everyone,

Try Fastmail.FM. I have a Fastmail account and have NEVER gotten spam. They have a large selection of domain names (if you don't like Fastmail.fm). They also have a discussion forum. If you have any questions at all, PM me about it.

There are free accounts and paid accounts: Member (one-time $14.95 fee - for life!), Full and Enhanced accounts. Here's some of the things it offers on the free account:

*Very fast email
*Spam protection: Basic (they offer advanced protection with Full/Enhanced)
*IMAP to read into Outlook or OE (which is better than POP/SMTP, but pop support also comes with full/enhanced accounts)
*10MB space
*Web-based email with wonderful stylesheets
*Notepad - store info there
*Address book - it's minimal but they're working on a full-featured one right now.
*Highly visited discussion forum.

Try and see how you like it! I love my account so much I paid for a Full account and transferred all email there.
