Just found out there will be a high school reunion coming up in a few short months. DH and I have never been to one of his before although we have kept contact with a few people over the years. With his memory problems I'm not sure how this will work, but I think we are going to give it a try. Here is the first problem though I could use some help with...... what to wear?
DH and I are not social; we enjoy staying at home here in the woods and enjoy our solitude, plus he doesn't do well in crowds since his accident. So we usually live in jeans and a comfortable shirt and around the farm we are sometimes in clothes you wouldn't wear anywhere else!
From my understanding the second night (for spouses) will be at a country club and remember we just don't go out and do things; we stay at home. Lots of our former school mates are very social and live in the city, go to five star restaurants almost every night for dinner and party, party, party! I am not comfortable wearing a dress so I will be wearing pants of some sort, but any help from any of you would be very welcomed! How casual can I be? And would DH need to wear a suit coat? Could he dress casual too? I would be most comfortable in a new pair of jeans and some nice blouse and a slip on pair of shoes..... What ever it will be I know I will have to go buy a new outfit and maybe even for DH.. help!!!

Hmm Cat, I am not sure either. I always caution on the semi-casual style with a comfy pair of black pants, comfortable shoes and a nice blouse or layered shirt. For your hubby, if he has a nice dress shirt or sweater, I am sure it would be just fine. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable. I hope you have a great time!

I agree, I would aim for a pair of slacks, a dressy-yet-still comfortable blouse and a blazer or dressy sweater for yourself and dockers or slacks with a button down shirt and jacket or shirt and sweater for your husband.
Do remember the comfy shoes! Get a little dressed up but not too much to put you out of your comfort zone. You should enjoy the night.
Head to GoodWill or other thrift stores to find great deals on clothes that are for occasions where you might not wear them too often.
Don't forget some simple jewelry to dress up "plain" clothes. A scarf works great, too.
Let us know what you decide to wear. Have fun with it!!
I have several scarfs I have bought at thrift stores already just because I thought they were pretty, but have never worn them! lol Exactly how do you think I should wear the scarf?
And...my hair...I usually shave it once a year and let it grow out to a short length (really helps here on the farm and the woods with ticks and such), but this last year I have let it grow long. Trimmed it off several times, but I always wear it tucked up under a cap ( I always wear a baseball cap) which I know I will have to let stay at home for this function. So I'm also not sure about the hair. I can roll it up into a clip in the back or shave it now and let it grow out to the short length and by June it should be just about right. Just not sure I am ready to go through that ackward (sp)shoulder length again though.
Thanks for the help so far, so here is the next installment! lol

As far as the scarves, it would depend on what type of shirt you wear. If you wear a pretty blouse under a jacket, you would wrap it around the collar or wrap it around your neck and tuck it in your shirt. You could also tie it around the collar and add a pretty pin to it.
It's going to be hot when this event happens, right? You can even dress up a sleeveless blouse with a pretty scarf.
If you are more comfortable with your hair short, I say go for it! It should be about you being comfortable. Short hair can be styled so cute! If you want to leave it a little longer, you can pull it back in a big clip or barrette on the nape of your neck. You can also wear a cute hat either way short or long hair -- think equestrian style with a jacket and hat.
I'm with you in always wearing a ball cap. lol!! I have to break this cycle and get a new hair style!!
You will want a lighter version of these hats for summer but the styles are cute:
Thanks for the ideas, love the links! Will look into them some more tonight! I like the hats! Think I'll watch the thrift store for something like those; then I can wear my hat! lol And that would help with the hair too! lol

Here are a couple of more pics for casual suit ideas. You could easily match a pretty scarf around a blouse. If you need ideas on how to tie it, let me know if you have long scarves or short ones. Keep in mind that it will probably be hot in June, right?
These pics are from Boscov's online. My Mom loves this store. She is tiny but always manages to find some great fitting dress clothes for really good sales there. I was looking at their sales online...there were some pretty good deals....not as good as GoodWill, though.
