Hometown Favorites

What are your hometown favorite places to eat ......your areas special foods and local places?

Have you ever been on a vacation and have good memories of a restaurant you ate at?

Locally, Bakersfield is know for country food and an amazing brunch at Buck Owens Crystal Palace. We also have Happy Jacks, a local lunch place that makes the pies.... Dewars is our local icecream parlour that makes the BEST sundaes and milkshakes...... Sequoia is oul local downtown deli with the best sandwiches and cookies in town, and I must mention the train caboose that was made into a burger joint!!!
This will sound unusual but our bowling alley is know for its fish and chips and they are definitely the best in Bakersield!
Our Kern County FAir, in Septmeber is known for corn dogs and corn on the cob!

A restaurant I most remember on a vacation was "Mrs Wilkes Boarding House" in Savannah Georgia. I love southern food and had one of the best meals there I have ever had in my life...it is all served family style. There was friend chicken, green beans, mac and cheese, slaw, cornbread, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, beets, greens, sweet iced tea and banana pudding!!!! YUM!!!

hugs, train

We like going to a chinese buffet here in town. One of our favorite places to drive to is in Lancaster it is called Shady Maple. It is a buffet with PA dutch food and it is fantastic. They have the best breakfast buffet and they make food fresh to order like pancakes, eggs, omeletes, etc. For the dinners they will make a steak for you. If the kids fine out we are going there they all come with and mom and dad foot the bill!!!

My favorites are not chains. Downtown we like Paddy Murphys, an Irish Pub type place that is warm and friendly with great food. Also over the river in our neighboring town of Brewer I like "The Muddy Rudder" which is a little more expensive but has a great menu and out door deck. Another favorite is a truck stop out on the interstate that has great homecooking and wonderful deserts "Dysarts".

One place that stands out in my mind right now on the Southern Coast of Maine area in Ogunquit is Barnicle Billy's in Perkins Cove. Great seafood.
