Question 3 Tsp. or 1 Tbsp.

Which is it or is it wrong? My cookbooks and drugs all say 3 tsps. =1 tbsp. Yet when I use any type measuring spoon... only 2 tsp. fit in a tblsp. My drug store put me on hold and we got disconected? Children medicine measures are tbsp.= 2tsp. All my cooking measuring spoons measure 2 tsp. fit in 1 tblsp: but yet in the cookbook it says there are 3 tsp. in a tbsp. Can anyone explain this?

I was taught that 3 teaspoon (t) equaled 1 Tablespoon (T) in homemake and in all my cookbooks that have conversations say that.

Now a "table/soup" spoon, spoon can be any size and shouldn't be used to measure medicine.

Does the tablespoon measuring spoon over fill if you put in 3 teaspoons?

Is there a chance that your measuring spoons are inaccurate? I've read lots of stories where people buy fancy shaped measuring cups and spoons that are no where near accurate.

I've always known it to be 3 tsps = 1 TBSP.

Children medicine measures are tbsp.= 2tsp -- is this a fact? I've never heard of this. Is it on a medicine bottle?

I was taught 3t =1T also. Then one day my hubby said I was wrong.
We have several cooking measuring spoon ,bought at differant places. Also havea few kinds of measuring spoons for med. What started the whole thing was my cliet was perscribed 3 tsp. of a liquid and I told hubby to just give her a Tbsp. He proved me wrong so I called the pharmacy which in the end hung up on me.

For medicines always measure it out with a "medicine measurement" for liquids. 3 tsp does = 1 tbsp, but like others have said cooking measurements and tableware spoons do not measure accurately for liquid medicine. Even if the person needing the meds isn't a child those pour into measure sticks for liquid medicines work very well for measuring out the correct dose.

Yes I know not to use Flatware or the likes for measuring.
I just done measuring tests with my spoons and some of my friends did them also. What I guess I was hoping that others would do tests and relay the results.

If I remember this tomorrow, I will check my measuring spoons and let you know what I find out. Boy, this makes me wonder if in the past, any recipes that I've had trouble with...I wonder if it was because of the measurements???

Sure is something to think about.

I'm heading to bed now.... have a good night all........

I wood like to know if I got terrible measuring spoons or what. I have an old set from tupperware. Some I bought who knows where and some from walmart. I really can't fiqure this out. In my mind they (meaning manufacters) can just not be accurate? It makes me want to know really really bad. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would have not believed it. I even argued with dh the whole time I was testing.LOL I think them nasty gremlins are playing tricks on me.LOL Thanks Tami.

Ours are: teaspoon = 5ml; dessert spoon = 10ml; tablespoon = 20 ml.
Does that help or confuse the issues?
