Fund raising

I have formed a walking team to WALK TO CURE DIABETES.
We will be walking for my nephew Elijah, diagnosed recently with Type 1. He is only 2 years old.
Does any one have any suggestions on how to make fund raising successful?
We might do a spaghetti dinner.
I need to know where to start. How much food to buy, how to go about getting tickets made up, without spending a ton of money before hand.
I don't need to recoup any money I put out, I wouldn't accept it anyway.
But any little tidbits will be appreciated. of course I may ask all of you to buy a ticket, LOL.
If I can I'll post a new picture of Elijah in my photo album.

I did get the email train, thanks.
Now all the team has to do is decide what we are going to do.
No one can decide so I may have to make an "executive" decision.

Coll,
If you have a restuarant supply or pizza supply store near by they should be able to tell you quantities needed for x number of servings. I do know that when we have done a spaghetti dinner at church we pre-cooked the noodles for 100 servings then warmed them as we went.

For the tickets you could use the preformed business cards and print them as you need or if you have enough tme ahead you could always order the free business cards from Vistaprint (250 ct for $6 shipping slow shipping). Pick one that is semi-blank and fill in the info for the dinner on it.

Get the radio & paper behind the dinner by doing pre-dinner interviews and hang signs up around town.

Roberta, those are great ideas. I will definitely look into the tickets thru Vistaprint.
And we can probably get our local country station to advertise and possibly come out. I'll be looking into that. As long as I say its my favorite station, it just might work.

I need some wording help.

I wan to ask some local businesses if they would be interested in sponsoring my team. I need a creative way to ask. It would be something like this.
For a donation of $100 your company logo will be placed on the back of our tee shirts.
For a donation of $75 your company name will appear on the back of the tee shirt.
There has to be a good way to ask.

How much does a t-shirt place charge for set up and printing, etc. I'm asking because you will want to cover that cost for the logo vs. name being listed. I would think they would like to know how many shirts are being printed so they know how much exposure there will be. Maybe offer each company one shirt free with their donation???

Not sure if you have a Wawa near you. You can buy hoagie tickets from them and sell them for a funraiser. Alot of the grocery stores will make up hoagies and you can sell them as a funraiser. The stores usually will have signs near the deli for that.

Bakesales, yard sales, lottery tickets, basket bingo these are all fundraisers that I have done for different organizations. If you community has a community day you can set up a table and sell something--bake goods, drinks, homemade items, etc. We did facepainting and sold kid bracelets one year at community day for a fundraiser.

As I think of more I will let you know. Sense I had 4 kids I have done a ton of fundraisers in my years.

Charlotte, please give me any information you can on having a fund raiser.
I am looking into having a basket bingo.
And also a Home and Garden Bingo.
The little town that Elijah lives in had a community wide (4 square blocks) yard sale last weekend. We didn't find out it was happening until a few days before hand so we had no time to get anything ready.

Roberta that's a very good idea. I'm sure we will be getting more walkers involved but so far we only have 15, including me and Elijah.

I contacted a supposedly cheap tee shirt printing place nearby. They charge $10.70 per shirt sizes youth small to adult x-large. Anything larger is like $1 more.
We are really thinking about taking,Candy's (I think) suggestion of making them ourselves. I made Toby Keith ones when Miriam and I went to a concert a few years ago. Turned out nice.
