Which goes on first, the wedding ring or the engagement ring?

This is something I've been wondering about.
When you put on your wedding rings, does the wedding band go on first or does the engagement ring go on first?
I put my band on first, then the engagement ring to protect it.

I was thinking the same thing. That's why I wear mine the way I do.

Wedding band because it's closet to your heart.

I have my rings (wedding band and engagement set) soldered together because it's 3 rings - the wedding band is on the bottom and had to be cut to precisely fit the other ring set.

** Now I'm reading if it's a ring set, it's up to the preference of the woman wearing it which way she wears it on her finger. I still say band first.

Good question!!

I remember when John and I got married I wanted my grandmother wedding band, so at the wedding I had to take the engagement ring off where he could slip the band on first and then put the engagement ring on.
so the band is closes to the heart like the other mentions.

I wear my wedding band first, then the engagement ring. My mom told me that the wedding band is first on your finger, cause it is closer to your heart and the engagement is last, because engagements can be broken and a wedding band is not.

Always wore Wedding Band on first with both marriages. When I lost Otto my band went into his breast pocket his was on his finger. I continued to wear the Engagment ring for some years now it is put up as well as first Engagement ring. Adam gets the first one and Steven gets the second one to give to their chosen brides

I was told the same thing, the wedding ring first so it is closest to your heart. I also think that is practical because you might need to get your engagement ring repaired or re-set at some point due to the prongs or setting being worn out and a lot of people just never want to remove their wedding rings so wearing that first would prevent the need for that.
