It's a hand bag, if you say purse (ladies have a purse men have a walllet) it's what
holds your money and credit cards and if you call it a pocket book we'd look at you
rather strangely and say, what???
I'd never heard of a pocket book until this forum a few yrs back
I will use all three depending on the item for which I am carrying. For example my "wallet" is sometime neatly pushed into my purse(s), tucked into my pant/jean pockets, or some days I throw it into a loose closing handbag, while other days (most recently) I don't use the wallet at all, but use the purse with its multi-pockets and zip closures...

My handbag is large enough to hold my diary, pens, tissues
My purse which holds my credit cards and money and other 27 plastic cards we seem to accumulate, also goes in my handbag.
A pocketbook, would maybe be a diary/notebook/address book.

purse is what holds all my stuff, very seldom have I called it a handbag.
pocketbook or wallet, As I have called it both, holds my money, and pictures, etc.
I always call mine a purse. The one I have now needs a new handle as I am very attached to it and cannot find a similar one to replace it. If someone else has a large purse I may call it a bag. To me a a pocket book sounds like something you would keep in your pocket, which I could call a wallet or a coin purse.
