Have you ever been robbed?

It seems like we can't go 1/2 a day around here without hearing of a robbery from either a store, a home invasion or somebody being robbed. It's so scary. With the holidays upon us, I hope that everyone is taking precautions to stay safe as you are out there shopping, cashing checks, mailing packages...etc.

Have you ever been robbed? How did you deal with it?

Do you take measures to try to protect yourself -- home & car alarms, carry mace or pepper spray, take self defense classes...etc?

We were robbed many times by a drug dealing scum bag who preyed on under 16 year olds to do most of his dirty work. We were on vacation and my dd was staying at home. He knew we were gone, and waited till she was at work. The police wouldn't even fingerprint or anything since we knew the guy and he had been in our house before. It is a long story, but I no longer trust the police to help protect us when things like this happen.

We have had 15 bikes and 2 cars stolen also.

We have had our car broken into two times - once right before we moved to NC when we were living in PA and once last summer while living here. In Pa., all they took was some loose change in the car. Here, they popped the lock on the trunk to get into the car. There were 17 cars broken into that night. The police think that my dh might have scared them off since ours was the last in line to get it. They either were only looking for certain things or they didn't get far enough into our car to get our GPS. At least they didn't break the door locks or smash the car windows as they did with many of the other cars.

My husband tends to walk around our apartment complex on the nights that he is off from work. It's scary thinking that someone could've been right in front of our house and we didn't know it.

Cooked, I'm happy to hear that nothing happened to your dd. Material items can be replaced, she can't. It does get frustrating when dealing with the police, I know. During this last car fiasco, they police took a report but didn't do anything after that.

No thank heaven never been robbed or anyone that I know of in this area. Years ago they broke into my brother PATROL car, he was on police force in Hollywood, FL. Also into his truck all they took out of truck was fishing stuff. And they just opened the glove compartment in P car, guess they thought he might have left his gun in there but they were sure wrong. Anyone trying to break into their home would have sure wish they never did.

the house we were planning on moving in at one time was robbed, I started notices little things disappearing, and John thought that I had misplaced it or didn't take it to the house. As time went on, we ended up having lots of things stolen, and distoryed by them.
Broken my heart.

I've had my car broken into by 5 teenagers which the police caught a couple blocks away. Nice to have senior neighbors that have to potty during the night LOL they saw them and called the police. Come to find out they had broken into several cars that night.

DD1 had her bike stolen from the drive way which triggered dd2's Tourettes for months as she worried about the bad men coming back for her new tennis shoes.

Omg, this breaks my heart! No child should ever live in fear like that. I have no sympathy for people who cause fear and pain like this.

It wasn't a robbery but when we first moved here, someone wrote "YANKEES" on our front window in soap. My kids were both scared because they had no idea what it meant. Once we explained it, they were worried that someone might do something to them because we weren't from here.

Our GPS was stolen out of our (unlocked) car one night last spring. DH never locks the car--he says they'll just break a window to take stuff. But after we replaced the GPS, we remember to always bring it in the house when we get home.
