Looks like another hot day today already 85*. They did have a pot luck get together here yesterday. Nice to see all my old friends.

Still picking figs every day. The jam came out great even without sugar just a little pumpkin pie spice. cooked in the microwave then mashed thickens right away. Spread on toasted bread satisfies my sweet tooth.

Cleaned out my freezer today and organized all the frozen vegetables and fruits. Did have some older opened packages of fish that I got rid of looked dried out.
Dh just went shopping now that I know we have room for more meats.
My neighbor across the street just came home from the hospital today. His daughter is going to put him in a rehab. for a few weeks so He can build up his strength. They are putting the house up for sale since He cannot live alone anymore. Hopefully He does not change His mind again. Sad to see all the old timers selling their homes and moving in with children. Hopefully some younger people will buy it and stay for awhile.

Wishing everyone a good day.

Tomorrow will be my first full day at my new job. So far I spent two days (4 hrs each day) at the main location learning the ropes. Tomorrow I am opening the new store and I think I have a lot to learn yet. It is very different from what I have been doing so it will take sometime to get use to a new routine.
I have been trying to keep up on reading posts, but I haven't had much time to comment. Hopefully once I get a new routine established with my new job I can spend more time here again.
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

Hi everyone. Hope you had a nice weekend.

Joy good luck with the new job tomorrow.

We are back from our weekend away. We had a great time. We hiked some of the trails at the PA Grand Canyon. I am a little stiff from that. We went to see some nice fireworks last night. Now hope and back to the normal routine of life.

Hello All! Our July is busy with swimming and lacrosse. Dd finishes the long course season (50 meter pools) in the middle of the month. She will be out of town for states/jr olympics so we don't even thing about those meets. She will be in Texas for a mission trip mid month. Ds will be going to a lacrosse day camp the same week dd is on her mission trip. We will go to the beach for a week towards the end of the month to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We spent this weekend with family and friends at home watching fireworks, going to a low country shrimp boil, and then having surf and turf on the grill last night. I hope that everyone had a safe Independence Day/Canada Day. I am also working a strange schedule for the months of July and August. Anyway...enough babble.

Quick question for all of the mothers our there (especially those who have or have had 8 year old boys/rising 3rd grade boys)...What bedtime did you set for the summer months? We have been having lengthy, tear filled discussions about the need for a bedtime and one earlier than an older sibling. Any input would be greatly appreciated since "every other rising 3rd grader at my school/in the world..." Thanks!

Take care all.

Joy, good luck on your first full day at your new job.

Charlotte, glad you had a fun weekend.

Sueanne, the fig jam sounds so good.

dinsky, sounds like a busy month.

I had a busy day today. Picked 4 ice cream pails of strawberries. Made 2 batchs of strawberry-banana jam, 3 batchs of strawberry jam, fixed berries for shortcake, put a small bowl in the fridge to eat and hulled, washed and froze the rest in vacumn seal bags. I don't even want to look at another berry at this moment. Maybe tomorrow. LOL

Hi to everyone.

Joy... Good Luck on your first day.
Sharon....Have to get a pail for picking figs will make it easier. Was thinking of buying vacumn seal machine do you like using it? Do you slice the strawberries or leave them whole for freezing? One thing about figs easy to put up no fussing. Took some down to the pool today gave some to the gals they loved them. If any fall from the tree ripe they will be mush. Nice to be able to share with friends since it will be months before they stop producing.

Sueanne, yes, we like using the vacumn seal.
Use it for all out meat, fish, strawberries, rasberries and any other fruit we decide to freeze. Use it for veggies from the garden also. Blanch the veggies like you normally would. I put fruits and veggies on cookie sheets, freeze and then put into vacumn bags. That way you don't have all the juice to contend with. The sealer not only pulls air out it will also pull the juice out.

Sharon, fresh strawberries sound good right now. Ours are past. We still can get them at the store but they are not nearly so good. Nectarines have been terrific though. Peaches are coming in but have been hard. Looking forward to those.

I have to get ready for work.

Take care all.

Dinksy,

When my kids were 10yrs old they went to bed at 10pm during the summer. During the school year it was 9pm. Once you were 13 yrs old(magic #) you got to stay up till 10pm during the school year and 11 during the summer.

I used it the bed time for punishment. If they didn't listen they went to bed 1 hr earlier during the summer. The weekends were more relax for bedtime. Dh and I both worked full time jobs so I was very strict with the bed times during the week because we had to get up early in the morning.

Happy Monday to all. Back to my 10 hr days this week. At least it is only for 4 days. Then I will have a 3 day weekend. It will be worth it on Friday when I am at home.

The girls should be home tonight or tomorrow sometime from Florida. I am ready to see how there 2 weeks went.
