If you found a wallet or a purse, would you try to return it?

If you ever found a wallet or a purse, would you try to return it?

My dh and I have found 4 wallets and a lady's diaper bag that contained her wallet, checkbook and cell phone. In all instances, we tracked down the names and addresses and returned all of them.

When my son was small, I left my wallet in a shopping cart in the parking lot of a shopping center when I went to put him in his carseat. Two young guys (probably 19 or 20) called me and told me that they found my wallet and that I could come and pick it up. They gave it back to me just they way they found it. I even offered to give them a reward but they wouldn't take it.

I found a wallet in a McDonalds Parking lot and hunted for 4 hours trying to track down the man who lost it. I finally tracked him down through the school website where he taught school...in another state. He asked me if I would mail it back to him and then he would reimburse me for the shipping costs--I did mail it to him but he never even said thank you once he received it. I felt good knowing that I found him and returned it in one piece to him.

I really believe that what goes around, comes around.

Yes I would return it to the person who lost it...

When my oldest daughter worked a Valu Village, one of her co-workers was sorting through the new and used clothing they received...The truck came from Kingston and she found $33,000.00 in cash in one of the jacket pockets that had been donated...no idea who the donation was from only that it was someone in Kingston...she turned it in to her bosses and found the owner of the jacket and returned the money to them...the girl never even got a thank you from the woman...but her bosses gave her 3 $100.00 gift certificates and thanked her for being so honest...and I agree Tami what goes around...comes around...

I would definetly return anything found. I have never encountered finding a wallet, etc. but if mine was lost I would freak out!
It's always nice to know that honest people stil exist.

Definitely yes. I have lost my wallet once (at a grocery store) and someone found it and picked it up for me, called me to come to her workplace and get it.

Once time we were in an airport waiting for our plane. The airport was playing games with everyone, constantly changing gates. The guy sitting near us in the waiting area jumped up and ran to get his plane, leaving a big stack of business papers behind. We could not catch him before he got on the plane so we took the papers with us and called the phone number on them to get an address to mail them back. We got the address but like Tami said, never a thank you or even "it got there safely."

I'd do it again in a minute though.

Yes I would do my best to find the owner as I know if I lost mine how bad I would feel and dollarwise in a bind. Years ago I found a $10 bill lying on the sidewalk looked around there was no on anywhere so took it to church with me next time I went and put it in the offering along with what I would have put. God knew who that 10 belonged to therefore it was his offering not mine I was just the carrier.
Good question

I have never found a wallet, or purse..but I find things like peoples pay checks, prescription glasses, etc...I was able to track down the owner.

My son lost his wallet in the woods on a trail...a yr later someone found it, and
it was returned to him...with everything intact.

What great people I live around!

I would most definitely return any purse or wallet that I found. I truly believe in karma and that what goes around comes around. I have lost my purse 3 times and it has always been returned to me with everything in it. One time I lost my purse in Boston at Faneuil Hall. I went to lost and found and they told me I had almost no chance at all of getting it back but they did fill out the paper work for me. Well I went back to where I had been eating and asked at a cookie kiosk and amazingly, my purse had been turned in and I got it back. A couple years ago, at Christmas time, I was shopping at Walmart. I loaded all my purchases into my car and drove away leaving my purse in the cart in the parking lot. I get to the grocery store (my next stop) and realized what I had done. I zoomed back to Walmart and there was no cart with a purse in it. So I went inside to customer service. They took forever to help me as the person who was in charge of “found” purses was I the back where they are kept in a “locked” room. She finally comes out and asks me to describe my purse which I do. She then asks me for some identification. I tell her all my identification is in my purse! (Duh) I tell her my cell phone is in an outside pocket of the purse. She gets out my cell phone and asks me what my cell phone number is. I tell her what the number is and she looks at my phone and says there is no number showing. I tell her she has to turn the phone on first and the number will show (Duh again) She does, sees that I gave her the right number and then gives me my purse. But the most foolish part of this whole story is, if she had just opened the purse and looked at my driver’s license, she could have seen my picture and know it was me but apparently either she was not allowed to do that, or didn’t think of it. Oh well. Whoever turned in my purse did not touch a thing. I was so absolutely grateful because it was Christmas and I had money in my purse for Christmas shopping. The third time I lost my purse I had put it on the roof of my car (something I had never done before) while getting my son strapped into his car seat at my pediatrician’s office. I drove all the way home and realized what I had done. I immediately called my pediatrician’s office and they ran down to check the parking lot. It wasn’t there. I was devastated. So I call the police station in the town where the doctor’s office was and yup, someone had turned it in. I drove back to pick it up and again everything was inside. I have been very lucky and so if I ever found a purse or wallet, I would certainly return it to the owner (paying it forward)

Yes, I would return it.

One time I left my checkbook at the grocery store. They knew me and called to let me know it was there.

Pinkie Winky Lost Wallet

I definitely would try to track down whoever lost it - We were in line at the ATM a couple of weeks ago & it looked like the man had dropped money - He counted the money & tried to open his door a little but couldn't & just drove away - I saw a bunch of money on the ground & started beeping & wouldn't pull up - I yelled, YOUR MONEY & he waved & drove around the bldg!!! There was a truck over in the next lane that started beeping as well - He must have known the guy, because, he's like HERB, You forgot your money!!! I told my son to get out & get the money & see if he could catch the guy - there were about 10 $20 bills - He picked up the money & walked around the corner of the bldg & the man was there - He must have been alerted by all the hoopla because he got out of his car & thanked Eric & thanked him for being so honest & gave him a $20 - I myself would not have taken the money but it was my 13 year old son - I made him give me the money & we went to McDonalds for lunch - LOL - I'm not trying to pat myself on the back or anything, but I am a firm believer in the verse in the Bible that says: Whatever you do to the least of these, you have done it unto me - I try to teach my kids that as well - It really warmed my heart when we were at the Save A Lot store a few months back - The elderly lady had a BUNCH of boxes in her cart - My 16 year old got out of the car & went & helped her load them in her car - I'm sure it made her day & made mine as well but the one who really got warmed was my son Ryan who really found out that it's better to give than receive!!!
