Over 10 years ago I was a court reporter for a credit reporting bureau, part of my work was to pick up daily bankruptcy filings. I had to park on the street at meters and one day a woman and I were angling for the same parking spot, I got it. She pulled in several spaces behind me, got out and physcially attacked me. A nice man came up and stopped her, she walked off. He let me use his cell phone to call the police and stayed with me till they got there. I've never forgotten that kindness during a very scary time.

Back in 1975 I was walking my daughter in her stroller back from the laundermat where I had dried my clothes. (back then, in the vending machine they sold the heavy, clear plastic bags to put your clothes in). Anyway I had placed it in the basket of her stroller and on top of it was my purse that I had wrapped around the handle of the stroller. Several hours after I had returned home a man knocked on my door who had his irish Setter dog with him on a leash. He had my wallet in his hand. On my way home I had to cross the crosswalk and there was a cement stop in between the crosswalk in case you don't get all the way across the street before the light changed. I had stopped mid way and then had to cross the rest of the way at the next light session that was my turn. He was actually jogging with his dog and explained he was in the Marines in San Diego and was on leave. He looked down in the street and found it where I had crossed. I was so thankful, as that $237 in it had to last me for two weeks! I remember this so well, the amount and the sincerity of this young guy. I tried to pay him but he said "absolutely not". what a surprise though as I didn't even know it was gone... This happened on a BUSY cross section in Newport Beach, California - and I was blessed that day!

Years ago I had a piece of junk car. Of course it broke down again. A couple stopped to see if I need help. They gave me a ride to my parents house. I will never forget how nice these people were to go out of there way to stop for me. Of course back then we didn't have cell phones. We trusted people back then. Never thought about people hurting you. How sad it is now a days that you have to be afraid to trust people.
You know how we tell our children not to talk to strangers. Well years ago when the kids were smaller. We were at a camp ground and all the people always say hi to you when you walk by each other. My youngest(now 16). Turns to me after I said hi to someone. "Do you know them" Of course I say no. Then she says "I thought you weren't to say hi to strangers". Of course the people that I said hi to stopped. My answer was you can say hi to strangers if you are with mom or dad. The people that stopped also like me never thought of a citutation like that. Now understand why small kids look so weird at them when they would say hi. These kids were scared of them because they are strangers and we have our kids trained to be scared of people they don't know. Because of the way the world is today. So sad that we live in a world like this.

OMG, Anna, how scary! Thankfully someone stopped to help you. I wonder if anyone would stop in this day and age?

I feel the same way. I am constantly reminding my kids not to talk to strangers or offer help to strangers when we are not around--so sad that I have to do this because my kids would help absolutely anyone who needed help. My son loves to talk to people, always has since he started talking, and there is such a fine line to what is ok and what is not. I hate it that you have to doubt yourself nowadays as to whether you should help a fellow human being who is in need.
Yes it is sad one never knows for sure if the "one in need" is really hurting etc or it is to grab you etc.
Years ago my b/f & I ran out of gas and a man stopped to see what was what, we told him he took us both to get gas for car and back to car never let us pay him for his trouble. Not safe to do any of that today

On 9-22-07 a drunk driver hit myself and 2 dd at 9:00pm. The nicest thing a stranger did was turn around and come back to help. He told me help was coming and who could he call or what could he do for me and my girls. I couln not tell you what he looked like or his age because of the adreniline rush and darkness trapped in our car but he was AWESOME!!!
The nicest thing my DAD did was back in 60's when I was young. Our family of 6 was driving on a Sunday in the country when out of the woods a half clothed woman appeared. Dad pulled over immediately and put her in our car while waiting for police to come and then helped find the man who was terrorizing her. Because of his examples I try to do random acts of kindness daily.
Today a man followed in WalMart, he was curious about dd's dog. He talked to us, asked many questions and was old fashioned freindly. His uncle was our nieghbor when we were first married. Our first home was his uncles way before we bought it. He was so nice, he saw me again in the check out line, asked where my dd and the dog were, told me to tell my dd he loves her and her dog. He also blew her a kiss. I know this sounds weird but this was a nice older man not a diry old man. He was just plain nice.
Last week while in a store, the owner gave me a pot of flowers just because she knows how tough life has been latey.
