LOL Theresa at least yours read. The only thing my older son reads is tech manuals, Gina rarely cracks any kind of book but her hubby likes to read and Pinky nor her hubby read to my knowledge. Judy if the print is large enough for her and that is WITH her glasses.

Right now I am reading a teen book. A friend of mine is the author--it was just published It is called When Mike Kissed Emma by Christine Marciniak. It centers around some high-school students in the school play. When I am done, DD wants to read it, and so far, it is definitely appropriate for an 8th-grader. I expected it to be so, since the author has a daughter the same age as mine, and I'm sure she would keep her own daughter in mind when writing her book.

Barbszy, that sounds like a great book for an 8th grader!

I am still reading "In the Shadow of Polio" which is a little intense so only read a chapter or two at a time. (it's about a woman whose mother had polio and who later died when the author was very young so she goes in search of people who knew and treated her mother to find out more about her life etc. - very interesting)

I am also reading "City Paradise" by Lorenzo Carcaterra (it a crime novel). He was also the author of "Sleepers" which was made into a movie)

Sammi that sounds like a good book despite the "subject". My beloved brother had Polio and then couple days later also had Diphtheria and was confined to home never had to have Iron Lung thank God. Is it a very thick book hard back or paper back?
Happy Reading all still working on my Fern Michaels book

DebK, I read "My Sister's Keeper" and liked it except for the ending so will be interested to hear how you like it.

Patti, In The Shadow of Polio by Kathryn Black I got from the library so it is hardcover but I bet it is also out in paperback. It is very interesting. It talks about what it was like to be in an iron lung, on a "rocking bed", what rehabillitation was like, what a patient's day to day life was like when confined to a polio ward etc. The author interviews other patients who were confined with her mother plus doctors and nurses etc. It is very interesting and a great follow up to the book Splendid Solution that I had read earlier about how Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine. But I can only read it in bits and pieces because it can be a little intense. I did not know your brother had polio. I hope that he had a milder case. The iron lung did not sound like a good place to be!

I am reading The Actor and the Housewife by Shannon Hale. Excellent story! It has very funny moments and also touching moments. It's the story of a married mom of 4 who becomes "best friends" with a handsome Hollywood actor.
