What do YOU do when you have insomnia?

When you can't sleep, what do you do? Read, watch TV, lie there fretting about not sleeping, have a snack?

You guessed it--I can't sleep, so I am here visiting FC!

I found an article on the main site that deals with the cost of lost sleep. It gives some strategies for improving sleep. Hope they work for me!

Barbszy I am so sorry you can't sleep...Me either...mine is caused by pain or just being stressed...try a hot bath and that seems to help me...or what about reading...I used to fall asleep while reading...

I sure hope you get some sleep...

Smiles & hugs...

Reading is a good one, but I don't have one of those nifty little book lights so I can't read it bed or I will wake hubby. I usually just go out and watch TV.

I often have trouble sleeping. I toss and turn for awhile but then I get up. Constantly checking the time because I know 5 am will be around. I try to read. I will go in the living room to do this but then I worry I will fall asleep out there. So...I go back to bed and just try to think of things to get myself to sleep. It works sometimes.....sometimes I go on the net. Here......I think what makes it the worst is knowing you have to get up.

Lauri

Sounds like we have the same get up hours... for me it's 4:45am.

Barbzy

Some things I have found recently to help is stop drinking anything caffeine after 4pm and a bigger help is taking 1 Tylenol or 1 Advil when I am feeling restless in bed. I don't know why that works??? but I'll take it anyday over having to take prescribed sleeping pills.

As some of you know I have a rough time sleeping. Even the nites I do sleep I am up every 2 hours to potty grrr! I get up and come on here, walk around the house a bit, read but rarely do I just lay there. Sometimes it is pain that keeps me up so take a pain pill it helps

when I can't sleep I will go lay on the couch in the living room generally I can fall back asleep then. If I can't get back to sleep I'll read for a bit then try to lay down again.

I have heard not drinking 2 hours before bedtime helps with the having to potty during the night.

do alot of the same thing all of you do,
read, lay there and twist and turn but can't do that now due to the shoulder being hurt. In fact that one reason I can't sleep lately is the pain, and worry and being concern over the girls, or the house is too quiet which is now since girls has gone back to thier mom.
other times I'm so tired I can't sleep, anyone have that problem?

I also when I'm by myself I like to lay in the dark as dh likes a night lite on, and get the fan to blow right on me while I sleep with almost nothing on, this helps the hot flashes and helps me to get super sleepy, it lke the cooler I am better I sleep until I get to cold. LOL

I also listen to the radio and lay and pray, sometimes a good cry will work too.

another thing I do alot is get on Fc for a spell.

Hope we all get some rest... but when not and we are here, we will know why.

Deep breathing works for me. I try for ten deep slow breaths if my mind wanders I have to start over. I have read when you get up and play on the computer, read, eat, that is rewarding your body for not sleeping.
