Sharon, after all the stuff that made the news this summer about
Social Services in Philadelphia, I have this distrust that calling them would do any good. We (and our neighbors) have thought about it, regarding Adventure Boy, but we are afraid it would hurt more than help. So instead we do what we do; we feed the kid lunch and let him play with our kids, and take him to church, and make sure he goes IN HIS HOUSE when we tell him it's time to go home (yes, we have to watch him go in or he will just sail on by on his bike and try to go someplace else--even if it's dark out!) And we pray a lot.
It breaks my heart, though, to hear things like what you are saying about that little boy. Adventure Boy's family, too, has no friends in the neighborhood. In fact, the gossip regarding the grandparents is astronomical. Many people won't let the kids near their kids because of it. We figure, this is not the child's fault.
Theresa, I forgot to congratulate you on the new grandbaby!

How wonderful!
Barb, I hope your GD is ok today! YIKES! ONE bee sting hurts--I cannot imagine 20! Poor kid. Did the Benadryl help her?
Big DS and his friends appeared to have a lot of fun last night. Right now there are 5 boys crashed on the floor and couch in my family room, and 2 in Big DS's room

It's nothing but big feet and big sneakers and black T-shirts and denim shorts as far as the eye can see. When they wake up I will make a giant batch of French toast for everyone.
OH, big

moment for me last night--my neighbor's mom is in the hospital in pretty dicey condition, and I ran out back to ask her DH how she is doing. So we are standing at the fence and he is telling me what's going on, and then he stops and says, "Don't move" and then I feel something on my feet so of course I jump a mile in the air and scream like a girl

it was a baby squirrel, running right across my feet! Apparently it has not learned to be scared of people yet.
