Well, after a long week of preparation for our Open House at work, it was a pleasant success. I prepared 3 written pieces, one of which was a framed history. And then yesterday and today I helped my dd1 find a room and move out. It took 3 cars and 5 friends, a few pizzas, but in 2 hours it was done. The kicker: just as the kids were ready to leave the room, they happened to look in the fridge and there were two full bottles of rum in the freezer compartment. So my dd1 reported it to the authorities. She didn't want to get in trouble or blamed for it. The on duty RA came down from another floor and said that when he did his rounds last night that the room was very noisy. Asked if my dd1 was there, uh NO! My dd1 felt that in addition to the girl using her computer unauthorized (a no no at PSU), that breaking the rules by bringing in alcohol (another no no) was just too much. She felt that being put at risk so many times warranted a report. I think for all the money we paid in room and board, that it was just dues, for dd1 probably slept in the room maybe 14 times, going to her friends rooms to get rest as this roommate would come in at all hours drunk and with boys etc. I was surprised my dd1 waited so long to do anything. It is a bad story that just gets worse with the telling and so many have already said they know what it's like so let's let it rest now. She is home for the weekend, will sort through what she needs for the remaining 3 weeks, and look up the new roommate and talk with her before moving back in to the dorms. Housing will work with her on this which is a good thing especially considering the size of this university. There is a human face to buearocracy.
