I was playing Literati today against a guy in Florida and he was saying how "everyone in Aussie hates the Croc man." I told him I, along with most other aussies I would think, didn't have an opinion one way or the other really, I feel he was an immature guy who did stupid things for publicity.
Still, he has done a heap for Australian conservation and Customs awareness. And it would be an awful way to die, I reckon.

Hi Kathy,
Bless his heart! Steve Irwin has been all over the news in California this past week. The news says he was stung in the chest and immediately killed by a stingray while filming a show.
His wife was hiking when this happened.
I watched a show with his parents. They were reminiscing about when Steve was young and how he fell in love with animals at such a young age. Also, a segment on him and his wife meeting in Oregon and then getting married.
He has a girl, Bindy and a baby boy, Bob.
My condolences you you, my Aussie friend, on the loss of such a wonderful man.
Didn't realize you had started this thread but here is the post from me on the 4th..and a pic that I posted yesterday..
I want to offer my condolences not only to all Australians but to Steve Irwin' family and all those who enjoyed his shows..(except for the one incidence with his son) I really enjoyed watching him..He was entertaining, informative and likable..
Prime Minister John Howard, who hand-picked Irwin to attend a gala barbecue to honor President Bush when he visited in 2003, said he was "shocked and distressed at Steve Irwin's sudden, untimely and freakish death."
"It's a huge loss to Australia," Howard told reporters. "He was a wonderful character. He was a passionate environmentalist. He brought joy and entertainment and excitement to millions of people

Steve is one of 4 people in Australia to have died due to a stinrgray spiking, people survive stings quite often but it was an unfortunate place to be spiked.
I guess in many ways his work was risky but it was all calculated risks, lets face it anyone working with electricity, working in a mine, a stuntman, army, navy etc, a whole host of jobs really all know the danger risks, but find it all worth it for the security of others, finding knowledge etc.
I think in years to come that Bindi will be there for all the animals just like Steve and later his wife was.
I guess like many woman world over, becoming a single parent in an instant would be a shock for anyone.
We as a family liked him.
I guess like many woman world over, becoming a single parent in an instant would be a shock for anyone. a moment or a week doesn't really make to much difference. My DH was 42, said goodbye as he left for a job, fell, went into a coma for 7 days and died..I still wasn't prepared for the outcome...

Sorry to hear that Margaret. We must make the most of our loved ones for as long as they are given to us. And that would have been no consolation at the time and I cannot speak from experience.
Kathy we love to watch his shows and will miss him dearly and i bet you are right bindi will follow in his steps loving and taking care of all the animals as steve did
Kathy here in Cnada it has been all over the news. My oldest son was very upset with the news. He was watching a special tribute to him on Wed night and was in tears watching it. Even though he never met him he thought the world of him and his love for animals. He always thought one day he would go to Australia to meet him. I think we were all in shock when wee heard. We were watching the news on all the Canadians who had been killed overseas and then the story of Steve came next. We all thought it was untrue but as we saw the story running every 10 min we knew it was and were very saddened for his family.
Hugs Debbie
