Happy Canada Day, DebK! We will all be so happy too when Mike is home safe with you.

Hi Tammy, I am Laura, married to Dominick for 39 years. We have a DD and a DS, neither of whom is married! Go figure.

There has been discussion about the good old days. Well, today will be some day's good old days, so we need to make it the best we can. Even if the times are tough, which they are for a lot of us, there will be things we will look back on fondly. Enough of being profound for one post! I hope all of you enjoy the holiday.

Holy cow, I need to get on the ball on this thread! Everyone's been here, wow. We're not doing anything special for the 4th, our dd is too small to enjoy loud noises like fireworks yet, it freaks her out.
I have to personally say that Krispy Kreme, when it's straight off the conveyer belt and warm and sweet, is a transcendant experience. Which is why my pants are tighter than they used to be, sigh. Trainlady, I so identify with your sweet tooth, I have one too, it takes all my willpower to maintain control, lol.

DebK, my thoughts and prayers are with you for your hubby's safety.

DeBora, you'll think we're sacriligious but my husband was upset that the Nascar race was replacing the star trek episode that usually plays at that time, lol. He's very much computer/science geek. So when did you first start to like Nascar?

Jrz, I understand about feeling like a church can be 'cold'. I've been in countless churches growing up and in only a small percentage have I ever even had someone say hi to me.

Very nice to meet you, SanDansMom! My daughter's name is Laura, it's my favorite name.

Ellenmelon, let us know what your trip to Gettysburg was like, I'm interested in visiting there sometime.

Happy 4th and Canada Day to all, have a good time!

Well Canada day has come and gone. My day started on a good note....my hubby called from overseas and was well. We talked a little about the rocket attack but because our calls are monitored he was unable to tell me exactly how close to him it was. They were still going ahead with Canada Day celebrations over there. Apparantly there were also 5 Americans injured from the attack! Not sure what there status is. The 1 Canadian was stable enough to be airlifted to Germany for medical treatment. Many of the Canadians were also celebrating the opening of "TIM HORTONS" in Kandahar. It is a coffee and donut shop chain in Canada. We all love our timbits and iced cappachinos. Mike said he was able to make it over and grab a cup of coffee! They had the official ribbon cutting ceremony during Canada Day celebrations!
After talking to Mike I went for my allergy shot and I had a bad reaction....my throat got scratchy and it became difficult to swallow. Luckily some benadryll was able to combat those symptoms. Once I was feeling better the kids, mikes dad and i headed out to a campsite where Mikes aunt and uncle were up from the states. We had a great visit and the campsite put on a fun day of events and a BBQ. Fireworks ended the evening. I am tired today as 2 nights after midnight and all the meds i took have made me very drowsy. I am hoping today will be quieter. I do need to go to town for groceries but will wait till later in the day.

Margaret how tragic for the family that lost that boy at Disney. That ride was one of my families favorites. I see the shuttle launch has been aborted. This was the launch that was suppossed to be when we were there.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!!

Hugs debbie

DeBora I saw the wreck that took Bobby out, I knew you'd be fuming. It was too bad because he had just said he liked the car and it was running well, he really had a chance to be in the top 10, I don't know if he would've beat Tony Stewart though.
I was hoping to get more painting done today but it's raining again so I will have to wait.
Jrtomato.. did you hear anything more on the cause of death for the 12 yr old boy who died on the rockin roller coaster. I feel so badly for his family. I wonder if he had some sort of heart condition that the parents were unaware of? My whole family has been on that ride and it isn't a really rough ride so I was surprised that someone died on it.
And a big hello to my friend Angel619! Sorry your computer was broken down and so very glad to see you back on line.

My family went to the local tracks every weekend. I watched the now NASCAR races whenever they were televised. So, I really do not remember when the "first" because I was so young.

Felicia, at Daytona, I was going to be extremely happy with a top 5 finish! I come back from taking kids to potty and he was 37th! He finished 42 and during the interview, I could tell he was not happy. I don't think I would have wanted to be in his motorhome last night, especially if his kids weren't around. lol Fuming hardly described how I felt. I cannot wait until he posts his post-race audio report on his site, Bobbylabonte.com. He'll be polite about what happened, as usual.

DebK, I am sorry you have a reaction to your allergy shot. I hope Mike continues to be safe. I am sure it seem like an eternity before he comes home. Is it 5-6 weeks? I hope you are having a wonderful Canada Day.

DonnaMarie, I hope you get to feeling better soon. Pain can sure be a problem and I know that is an understatement. I have nerve blocks to keep my headaches away for months and months on end. I haven't had one since January. I used to have them 3-5 times a week. My DD finally went to my pain specialist and has got some relief from her lower back pain.

I am sure I am missing someone. My DGS is getting whiney so I am thinking that he needs nap. I have broken him of most of the whining. My house looks like a tornado hit it with 3 boxes of toys scattered everywhere! lol If I can stand the kids and they can stand me until Monday night, I am planning on taking them to see the fireworks that the fire department has at the river.

Debbie and Felicia...the 12yr old had a hidden heart defect that his parents were not aware of..the MD on TV report said that some defects are really hard to see..esp. if it is a hole in the inside part...not sure that was the case here or not..
The astronauts are suited up and ready to go but there is only a 30% chance that it will go up...the weather is not cooperating out at the cape at all....if it doesn't make it today I think then next date will be the 5th...
Debbie glad Mike wasn't hurt and that he got to celebrate Canada day with coffee from the new restaurant...
