External memories

Are there foods, smells, flowers, sounds, songs, etc that bring back memories of your childhood?

We had hydrangeas growing wild all over our neighborhood so those particular flowers bring back fond memories of Tacoma. Mark has planted a hydrangea for me in the backyard. They don't do terribly well in the California valley but I think it is finally starting to grow this year!
I wore Sweet Honesty, Love's baby soft and Love's Rain scent........occasionally I get a bottle of one or the other at Christmastime for old times sake. Tabu is the scent I remember on my grandma!
"Oh Donna" (the song )is a sound I remember as the librarian in Seventh grade always greeted me in song!!
John Denver songs remind me of Junior High. The song Abraham, Martin and John brings me right back to camping at Dash Point State Park!

I loved Chocolite bars. They are no longer made but Wispa bars are similiar. Also liked those chocolates called "Icecubes" (We found some in a store on the northern coast while on vacation this week so I have a handfull in the fridge!!!)
Oh, and walking salad............my favorite!!! Did you make that as a child?

Hugs, train

I had very fond memories of visiting my Nana and Goggy (my father's parents). Nana always had Welch's grape juice, Coca-Cola in green bottles, and homemade cookies. So, to this day, I LOVE the site and smell of those things. I also remember the screen door creaking and the sound still reminds me of my childhood.

I also remember, now don't laugh too hard, my mother taking her sister, my aunt, driving around the drag looking for guys while my brother and I would hide on the floorboard in the back seat. (My aunt was single at the time.) I remember the song by Janis Joplin called, "Brand New Key." I still get taken back when I hear that song.

Train, what is walking salad? I must not have ever made it.

I remember some smells from childhood. More so now that mom has passed away.

Mourning doves cooing in the trees outside the bedroom window, train whistle at 5 pm in the distance, that whoosh sound of cars passing in the morning on the road out front.

Basil in the pasta sauce on the stove, rosemary in the lamb, parsley in the croutons.

OK, I know I'm giving away my age here, but I used to love to sleep with the attic fan on and the window open over my bed. It was so comforting and since it was BEFORE air conditioning, it was nice and cool. I loved it and miss that and hearing the crickets at night.
I also remember how much I loved to come home from school and my mama would have jasmines on the kitchen table and the whole house would smell wonderful! I had a jasmine bush until I sold my house a few years ago.
The song that I remember and loved so much at one time was "Sleepwalk" by Santo & Johnny. Oh, and "Exdous". I know I spelled that wrong.
And when we'd go downtown, my mama & I would be "dressed to the nines" and before we came home she's buy me a malt and an Elvis 45! It's great to be old!!!!!

The smell of modeling clay, Crayola crayons, yellow paper with wide lines and the smell of wool mittens drying on a radiator remind me of my early elementary school years. Windsong and Love's Baby Soft perfumes remind of me my high school years. And the smell of scented bath powders always reminds me of my mom.

Sammi, I think one of the very first smells from childhood was the smell of crayons. That smell still takes me back.
