Working Life

My dh has worked in the same job for 30 years!! He began his apprenticeship as a hairdresser, worked for that guy, worked and managed the salon for the next owner, then bought it himself (well ourselves really). I cannot imagine that length of time in the one place!

I worked for a bank for 10 years, in that time I was in four different branches/offices. Then had babies. Worked in a church office as an admin assistant, then a teachers aid in a school, then playgroup co-ordinator in a Church, now a Kids Pastor! I am more spontaneous than dh!!

How about you?

Lets see,
My first job, right out of high school was at the Woolworth's luncheonette! I loved that job................even though the first banana split I made for a customer I forgot to put the banana in!! LOL!! I learned!! Two summers in my teenage years I was a camp councelor at a camp Fire Girl's camp!!

I taught preschool for a couple years after Woolworths closed and then waitressed after that.

I have waitressed many years including Carrows, Mimi's, Bob's Big Boy and Denny's.

I have been an assistant manager of a group home. Also have worked as an activities aide in a nursing home.

hugs, train

Pinkie Winky Work

I started working at an Insurance Company as a rater at age 17, fresh out of High School & I am still there!!! I have been there for 25 years!!!!! I am now a Claims Examiner & I love it, however, I only work part time, 3 days a week so that I can be at home for my real job, (mom, wife, homemaker etc). It sure keeps life interesting.

I tried to answer this earlier but it got lost so I'll have another go at it.
I've worked several jobs over the years, although my dh has worked more and been out of work off and on through the years when I supported the family mostly-I still feel like I am the main support for us and now it's really just the two of us.
Out of HS I went to work at Zayre's Dept. Store (anyone remember them??) I was the sign maker-that only lasted the summer, then they had a budget cut-they eventually went out of business. Next was JMFields-started as sign maker, went into being a cashier and was there almost 2 years-got fired-they went out of business shortly thereafter. Went into banking as a proof operator(balancing the bank)-really enjoyed that-for two years then my dh joined the AF and I joined him in TX-just before I would have qualified for my yearly bonus!!-they merged with another bank. Worked in TX for a year as cashier at Globe Discount City, moved back to FL-Globe DC was bought out by Kmart. Went back into banking in FL for 8 years-was fired shortly after returning after maternity leave-that bank merged with another bank. Went to work as a cashier for Franks Nursery and Crafts(from Detroit-moving into the Southern market)I became a Store Administrator-was with them 6 years before moving to NC-they closed up their stores S of the Mason Dixon Line. First job I got in NC was in Nuclear Security-unarmed(would have never thought about this job),after 3 years became armed security-was there for 8 years before leaving to be cashier in Wal~Mart-that security company lost their nuclear contract or merged with another security company. Been with Wal~Mart almost 7 years-this Nov. I'll be vested in the pension plan and get 3 weeks vacation.
If I was Wal~Mart, I'd make sure that I never quit or get fired-seems like every company I leave for whatever reason fails in some way or another.....LOL
I am hoping to transfer to a store being built closer to my home in the next few months-they haven't actually started building it yet, but that should start soon. Probably try to get my dh a job there too since it would be closer for him also, but we'll see. Once I'm vested in the pension I could really quit and start somewhere else-like Target or Costco, both of which are supposed to coming to the area-Target closer though.

I work in a steel fabrication plant office. I have worked there since 1983, three days after my graduation from high school. My favorite teacher/guidance counselor got me the interview for the job. Prior to that I worked 2nd shift at a local mill for about 3 months. I would be happy to work at my current job untill it's time for retirement.

What's been your BEST job? (Other than Stekim and Donna who have only had ONE job ........ LOL!!!)

My favorite was the Woolworth's luncheonette! I still like waiting tables!
Second choice was when I worked as an activities aide in a nursing home.
