Ok, to make a long story short. I've been going to a Chiropractor because I have migrain headaches. My husband was with me when the Chiro had us sign an agreement that we would pay $323 a month until March of this year for visits three times a week. After a month of going the financial strain impossible. We have no health insurance and I was going through some health problems at the time and paying everything out of pocket. Well, I ended my visits to the chiropractor and told him then that I couldn't aford it right now. He wanted to put me on another payment plan which would be lower then the amount I would be paying. I said I couldn't afford it right now. So then he said don't worry about it, just keep coming in and pay whatever you can. I didn't want to do that because I felt weird taking services for something I couldn't afford to pay. Finally he got the hint and said I would have to come into his office to make payment arrangements for the services I already received. I told him I would, but I didn't. I felt uncomfortable. I talked to the ladies at the front desk and got the outstanding amount I owe. I told them I would pay whatever I could but right now I am having financial problems. Well tonight he calls my house at 9:45 pm at night telling me if I don't come into his office to make a payment arrangement or to pay the balance in full, by tomorrow, he was going to file small claims court against me and there would be a $70 fee added on to my bill.
I know I'm responsible for paying my balance. I know this. I am not mad about that. But the DR is calling me late at night and playing collection agency at the same time? He was very rude and made me feel very uncomfortable. I don't feel comfortable going into that office!! My husband said we could go ahead and adjust some bills and pay the Chiro tomorrow. I just don't want to deal with him because he was so rude to me.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
ctealady...Just went throught the same situation with my DS at the wound center. Did not know the Dr. did not accept medicaid payments. The center did but not him. After explaining the situation to him that we could not continue his services there at those prices He adjusted his bill and let us continue at his office at a reduced rate. He sent him a check every month for what he could afford. Gave him a big hug and told him how I appreciated all he has done. We still continue to see him. He has even helped us with seeing other specialists too. There are many places that accept patients on a sliding scale according to their income. Check with your county. If you can work something out try and do it. You may need his help again. _______ Sueanne

Thanks Sueanne for your post. I read your reply last night and slept on it. This morning I went in with an open mind to just smile and no matter if he was rude or not, just smile and pay my bill and get out of there and I wouldn't have to see him again if I didn't want to. Well, when I went to pay my bill, he said hello, and said if I could come up with $250 he would call it even!!!! I WAS LIKE WHAT???!!!! Is this a trick? He said no, i'm just trying to cut you a break. I was dumbfounded! I took him up on his offer and I paid the $250!!! I can't believe it! What started out as a uncomfortable situation turned into a blessing. Thank you Dr Hostfee!!! And thank you Sueanne for your advice
It seems to me that the Dr may be having financial problems of his own. Why else would he be making his patients sign agreements? When I had to go to a chiropracter, I went until I was well after a fall.
BTW, I also have sever migraines. I tried eveything, including a chiropracter. Now, I have RFT nerve blocks and I am pain free for 9-12 months. Whatever you do, good luck!
After that time is over I would find another chiropractor. My daughter has migraines a lot and we live in a small town. Our chiropractor is only 30.00 a visit. He is very good and takes time with you. Check around and you will probably find a good one that doesn't charge as much. I hate agreements that hold you to something.
Well I stopped going to him because of the financial strain it was having on us. So, I paid up my bill last friday and now I don't owe anything. He gave me a break, I only ended up paying $250 which was very nice of him. Butnow if I ever decide to go back to a chiro it will be another one. He made me uncomfortable.
Migraines involve widening and narrowing of the blood vessels in the brain, which triggers changes in brain chemicals, inflammation and pain.
Where are Chiropractors qualified to treat this ailment?
If I may suggest that you contact the largest teaching hospital in your area and inquire about a headache clinic.

Thanks, the thing is I have a cyst/tumar that is not cancerous on my brain. IT's small, isn't something I need to worry about the nuro surgeon said, but I have the headaches. He is the one that suggested I go try a chiro or a nurologist. My headaches aren't as bad as they were when I first started going to him. I've learned to just live with them now. I hope that one day they go away for good lol. I will check out your suggestion though Thanks
Ctealady, I understand. Mine are probably caused from scar tissue from major head/brain surgery when I was 18 years old. Even though I prepair the staff, they are still shocked my my MRI results. Anyway, all the traditional treatments for migraines/cluster headaches have not worked for me. However, the doctor does RFT occipital nerve blocks and I feel like a normal person for months and months! I love it!
