The six weeks surrounding Thanksgiving to New Year's Day are one of my favorite times of year. Growing up, and now with my own children, we spend many wonderful hours cooking for family and friends. We eat some and give away much.
What are your favorite foods and recipes? Is there something you are looking for? Let's see if we can start an online cookbook of sorts for the holidays. If a recipe has special significance and you want to share, please do. If a recipe comes from a published source, please share that as well.
I love to try new recipes and have a whole collection of old ones. One of my favorites comes from my husband's great aunt. It is at least 100 years old.

Aunt Mary's Sand Tarts
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour
Cream butter and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix well. Stir together the dry ingredients and add to the wet in thirds, mixing well after each addition.
Drop by teaspoon on a cookie sheet (I line mine with parchment paper). Bake at 325 - 350 degrees Farenheit. Take out before done, about 10 - 15 minutes. The edges will be slightly brown.
The dough can also be rolled into a log, wrapped in waxed paper and chilled. Then slice.
I have also chilled the dough. Then form one inch balls, roll in cinnamon sugar, flatten slightly and bake as above.
