Favorite Foods of the Season

The six weeks surrounding Thanksgiving to New Year's Day are one of my favorite times of year. Growing up, and now with my own children, we spend many wonderful hours cooking for family and friends. We eat some and give away much.

What are your favorite foods and recipes? Is there something you are looking for? Let's see if we can start an online cookbook of sorts for the holidays. If a recipe has special significance and you want to share, please do. If a recipe comes from a published source, please share that as well.

I love to try new recipes and have a whole collection of old ones. One of my favorites comes from my husband's great aunt. It is at least 100 years old.

Debbie

Aunt Mary's Sand Tarts

1/2 cup butter (no substitutes)
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 cup flour

Cream butter and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Mix well. Stir together the dry ingredients and add to the wet in thirds, mixing well after each addition.

Drop by teaspoon on a cookie sheet (I line mine with parchment paper). Bake at 325 - 350 degrees Farenheit. Take out before done, about 10 - 15 minutes. The edges will be slightly brown.

The dough can also be rolled into a log, wrapped in waxed paper and chilled. Then slice.

I have also chilled the dough. Then form one inch balls, roll in cinnamon sugar, flatten slightly and bake as above.

Snickerdoodles

3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 pgk. (18 oz)sugar cookie bar dough
Preheat oven to 325.

Combine sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. Break dough along pre-scored
lines. Roll each square in sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on
ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until edges are set but centers are still
soft. Cool on cookie sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to
cool completely.

Yields 20 cookies

This of course can be doubled. There are other methods/recipes out there for these but thought I would share this one.

Nice thread good luck with it.

This is the time of year when I love to cook things that cook all day, like spaghetti sauce, and stew (now that I have a recipe that works!) I'm also enjoying baking apple pies. I love to make those and my family likes them. I WILL be back to share my recipe

a couple of my recipes that everyone loves for the holidays is my
Sweet Potato Casserole and Broccoli Casserole

Broccoli Casserole

1 bag frozen broccoli
1 pkg. stovetop stuffing
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
shredded cheese**

mix all ingredients except cheese, broccoli is still frozen.
bake at 350, for about 30-45 minutes.
**cheese may be added before baking, or for last 15 minutes of baking

When I find the sweet potato recipe I'll add it.

Dinsky,

My mom used to make something just like your recipe but called Moravian Sand Tarts and she rolled the dough, cut diamond shapes with a pastry wheel and sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar.

My favorite food for the holidays is the stuffing in the turkey. Love it!!!!
