Your Birthdays!!!!

What was your favorite birthday as a child? Was there a fun party? Were there special traditions in your family for birthdays?

What has been your favorite birthday as an adult?

hugs,train

As a child there are two birthdays that stand out.

My 6th birthday I had spent the night with my aunt and uncle. We stopped at my grandparents and I was told I'd forgotten my bag at their house. I was in trouble or so I remember thinking. Any way when we got back to the house (which had been in the country) the entire family (my mom's brothers, sisters, in-laws, my cousins) all jumped out from the side of the house and yelled surprise. I also remember my brother was tending the big bon-fire and I worshipped my brother back then. He came home on leave for my party and THAT was the best part of the whole day!!! (He is 11 years older than me!!)

When I was 12 my mom had another surprise slumber party, spaghetti dinner, swim party. She had talked to the office of the apartments where we lived in Houston and got permission to use the pool. She had friends at work do nifty artwork on the signs and made a sign in poster. That was another neat b-day.

My 19th birthday was bittersweet. I was in the homeless shelter here in Chambersburg with Maggy. The other residents made or bought (can't remember) me a cake and sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Maggy remembers that too. It meant alot, and I have never seen those folks again nor do I remember who they are, but they remain forever in my heart.

And well yesterday was neat! Saturday night Maggy baked a cake for me. She tried to do it w/o me knowing but it just smelled too good. Sunday morning when they sang to me..I thought about how much it meant to me now b/c it came from their heart!

Family traditions....making a cake, playing "LAS MANAŅITAS", and having the birthday person take the first bite of the cake...which they usually wear! LOL

I had a few birthday parties when I was a child. The one that I remember most is my 4th birthday. We had it outside. It was a beautiful sunny day. A few of the neighborhood girls were there. We all had our fancy, ruffly party dresses on, and patent leather shoes. I remember we played that game "Litlle Sally Saucer". It was a circle game.

I remember I got a tea set that year, and my birthday cake looked like a princess. It wasn't a Barbie cake, though.

I have no idea how I can remember all this, when I can't even remember last week.

I loved all my parties as achild but I loved my sweet 16 party my parents had for me!! We rented a rollerskating rink and then returned to my house for pizza and a co-ed sleepover....talk about brave parents!!!! My parents gave me a beautiful gold and birthstone ring. I felt like the belle of the ball that night!!!

As an adult I have loved all my birthdays since I was a mom. I love having the kids get so excited to pamper me all day and try and keep secrets.....of course they never can!!!

As a child, my favorite birthday was my 13th!! It was at Point Defiance park and I "got to" plan all the games!! We had the watermelon eating contest, the egg throwing contest, the dress up relay..and on and on!! All my girlfriends came and I still remember that party to this day!! Today...I love planning parties and games (the sillier ,the better!)...I think that started at my 13th party!!!!
That was also the summer my parents let me spend an extra week at summer camp tho they really couldn't afford it!!!!

My fav adult birthday was my 40th. I spent a week in upstate New York (Rhinebeck) at a "Women's Sacred Summer Camp" at Omega Holistic Retreat Center!! It was one of the best weeks of my life!!!

I had alot of great birthdays but one that sticks out in my mind is when I turned 16 my mom got this balloon filled with dollar bills I can't even remember how many it was now but she brought it to school and everyone was asking can I have it or can I have a few dollars... (Getting a car was nice as well)

I was rummaging through some old photos the other day and had to post this one! It was dated Nov. 23, 1957. It is a picture of my dear Grandma who had made this gingerbread village for my 1st birthday! I can't say that I "remember" this particular day but as I got older each year my day was special. She came up with the idea to always celebrate my birthday in November, around the 24th, because my actual birthday is Dec. 24 and she wanted it to "feel" like my birthday!! Anyway, here she is with the village she made just for me!! And she was so pretty back then

I know that noone has posted for a month here, but when I found the site today, I just had to share one of my birthday memories.
My birthday is in June. The summer I turned 5, we moved to our mountain property in Utah from Henderson Nevada where we had lived for many years. My Dad's health was not good. He had been involved in an industrial accident. I don't know if the doctor advised the moved or if my parents just decided that. Anyway, we lived there just for the summer, then moved to town when school started. On that birthday, my mom made a chocolate cake (my favorite) and iced it. Then for the decoration, she put homemade paper dolls, the kid that you fold then cut. It was so cute. We had a family barbeque and while we were singing and playing games, 2 of our 3 dogs went into the trailor, and they were up to no good. The 3rd dog entertained us by putting a smoltering stick in his mouth so that it looked like he was smoking. He was the distraction so the other 2 could eat my cake.
My mom always made every birthday feel special and I miss her. She passed away in Oct.

Decided to look in on this thread and it was great reading about everyones favorite birthdays as a child.
I scrapbook, and I have a birthday cake and picture of me from every year til I was a teenager. But I had a really nice birthday party when I was about 6 or 7 and then again around 12. It was in the nice basement of the home I grew up in and all my girlfriends on the block and from school came and we had the traditional party with pin the tail on the donkey etc. The pictures are all black and white but held up quite well, and I had the frilly pretty dress that was typical of the 1950's. I remember most as a 13 yr old the Halloween party my mom helped me put together and she made my flapper dress with lots of fringe and bright red. It was a mix party and as I remember went really well, except she left a big jug of cider in the old fridge downstairs for weeks after and one night we heard a small explosion and come to find out the cider fermented in the jug and blew up in the fridge and it was running all over the tiled basement floor. It smelled like alcohol, well I guess thats what it turned into. We laughed for many years over that one, moonshiners we called ourselves.
Those were the days!!!!! I had a great mom, she was always making things for me and doing exactly the same things I did for my own boys when they were growing up. I miss her!!!

I just found this thread by accident, lol. Carolyn when you mentioned the flapper dress it reminded me of my 13th birthday 35 years ago(yes for all those that are adding Im 48)I had a "Roaring Twenties Party" it was so much fun it was all girls I went to school with and we all dressed up like flappers and my GM was a hairdresser and did my hair in a 20's style. Im gonna ask my DM if she still has the pix of it, Im sure they are around somewhere.
