It should be interesting!I just wish the candiates would stick to issues not get into each other. I don't want another 4 years like the last 8.

so far I haven't heard anyone mention any of the issues that I'd like to hear about-not with any details that's for sure.
My opinion about the candidates are as follows:
Obama has no experience (personally I get the feeling that someone is pulling his strings because no sane person would get elected to Senate and run for President before he's even had one term in the Senate)
Biden has experience, but if he has the experience to help steer Obama in the right directions-then why didn't they choose him to run for President(and he's another one that doesn't say what he means-he said that he would not except the VP roll if asked, but he never refused once when they picked him)
McCain has experience in all sectors-he's a maverick of the Republican party-he tries to be a free thinker, but all politicians are run by their party to a certain extent.
Palen is also qualified by experience. She has also worked her way up - at least from what I've seen and heard. She may not be an Alaskan native-I don't care about that. It shows she has strength of character to take on a baby with Downs Syndrome-not to say that she won't have lots of help to fall back on. Being VP is much different from being Governor.
All in all, I think the American people will be surprised by what they get if McCain/Palin win-not exactly the Bush ticket.
If Obama/Biden win it's not going to be sweet victory for the American people-just the Democratic party.
I have never voted Republican, I'm registered Independant - it's not a hard decision at this point for me.
Of course, this is just my opinion.
Can anyone tell me about anything that Obama has done in his short policitical career to help the people of his state or anyone else???
take care all
Pam

I don't want another 4 yrs like the last 8 yrs either.
I agree Obama doesn't have the experience. Plus his wife said on TV that she has never liked this country, but now her husband is running for President, she likes it. Is this the kind of person we want for the first lady?
Obama is not an Africian American. He is Arabian with a tiny bit of Africian American and white. He has referred to his grandmother as an old white lady.
This has nothing to do with the issues of this country but it does have to do with the kind of person Obama is.
McCains thinking is different than Bush's. He does have experience.
I'm not going to get into the vice-president candiates.
I'm a registered Democrate BUT I have always voted for the man I thought was best suited for the President's job. Makes no difference what party he is affiliated with.
That is what I will do again.

Palin is getting a fair bit of flak from the Australian media. I don't really understand it all as it's quite different from our political system.
However Andrew has a good take on it. Maybe he can pop in and give you the run down on how it seems to be playing out over here

Here's Andrew's (dh) thoughts on it: Our media here in Australia seem to be favouring Senator Obama, I think partly due to the novelty factor of a “black” president. To the Australian culture Governor Palin represents what many would see as a bit of a right-wing extremist with her views on abortion, gun rights and her evangelical (read “fundamentalist”) Christianity.
To the Christian evangelical community here, other than the gun issue, she doesn’t come across as extremist, except perhaps among those that accept the media spin without thinking about the issue for themselves.
Our journalistic community generally tends to be between centre and left of centre to varying degrees with a minority of journalists who would vary from centre to right of centre. One of these is newspaper journalist Andrew Bolt who posted this on his blog on Friday: (http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt)
The radio journalist he refers to (3AW’s Neil Mitchell), I would normally place in about the centre politically.

Meg, thanks for letting your DH come on here and share how this election is playing in the media in your country. It's always interesting to see how events in one country are portrayed somewhere else.
It has gotten interesting now that the vice-presidential candidates were named. Particularly interesting is how it's almost pitting Obama against Palin. Refresh my memory--but Palin is not running for PRESIDENT....
It's obvious that the media do not like Palin at all.
I am neither Republican nor Democrat. This is an interesting election. My greatest concern is that Obama does not seem to respect this country and I fear what he would do to it if he were elected.
There is an article about how Obama took the American flag off his campaign plane and replace it with his own icon. There is a photo of McCain's plane, but I don't see a flag. I don't see a mention about him taking off the flag and I don't know whether there is a flag on the other side or not.
I am concerned that Obama doesn't seem to have loyalty to this country and that is paramount in my opinion.
I will admit that I do not watch much news. So, it is VERY possible that I don't know what I am talking about. But, during the few times I have had to watch the news because I was at a place that was showing it, I don't see much of Obama's running mate. Is he active? What is the information on him? Everywhere I see McCain, I see Palin. Even if they aren't together, I am seeing them both actively campaigning.
On a side note, I thought Palin's comment that the difference between a pit bull and a soccer mom was liptstick. LOL She seems to have a genuine love for people. I didn't get Obama's comment on lipstick on a pig. This is the one thing that I hate about the elections is the mudslinging. I would probably listen to each party talk if they would actually talk about what they've accomplished and what they plan to do once they've been elected.
I wish we had a system in which Americans could go online and check each party's background. Then we would know what they REALLY did and did not do so we could make an informed decision.
I am also a big believer in the president must have served in the military in some shape of form since he will be Commander-in-Chief. In that role, the president will have the power to command all of the armed forces. I have a problem with a boss being able to make decisions about something he knows nothing about except for what others are telling him.
