What's your style ??

I homeschool 3 of my 5 kids, so we're doing 1st, 2nd and 7th grade. We just started a year ago, and have not been able to afford a full curriculum. We are using some textbooks, some workbooks, and some creative mom with a computer.
Since it is almost summer, I am trying to consider what we will do for next year. I have thought about unit studies since I have several grade levels, but I have heard that there is a lot more research and preparation involved. I'm considering keeping the math and language arts separate, but teaching science and social studies together (with different work requirements for the different ages). I'm glad to hear that it is not uncommon to change a few times before settling on a curriculum. I feel like I have one chance at HSing and I don't want to mess it up.

Taking it one day at a time is the only way to go in my humble opinion. I've been homeschooling my son for four years and we have done something different each and every year. I'm concerned now as next year we start 9th grade and things will need to be more structured. I just bought the book "Senior High: A home Designed Form-U-La" about which I've heard a LOT of good things and I'm hoping it will give me the direction I need to make it through the next four years. It sure would be nice if my son would like SOMETHING so we can stick with it, but I guess that's why I'm homeschooling him - because he gets bored so easily. I'm thinking I'm going to have to focus on living books. Better yet, I should probably just wait until I read this Form-U-La book and see what the editor, Barbara Edtl Shelton, suggests.

As mentioned in a previous post, we were using HomeSat, but it looks like we won't be continuing. In a way, I'm relieved. As much as I love the curriculum and the whole set-up, it was really more than we could afford. So now I have to sell my HomeSat satellite, receiver and books! I may just keep the books another year to refer back to.

We also have a first grader that we straight homeschool since he is doing mostly second grade work and I'm looking into having him tested to skip a year before enrolling him in the cyber charter school. We're just going with the flow of things at the moment, there are so many options out there. We may decide to straight homeschool the oldest or enroll the middle child in the CCS at some point, who knows. We've even discussed ps for high school with the oldest, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it though LOL.

donmissham do you have a link to that cyber charter school? I am curious about it? I am homeschooling my dd in the 2nd grade. using the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum.

HI. I'm new to this forum but not to homeschooling. I have 2 kids. One will be two in a week and the other is 7. We're in our 2nd year of homeschooling. My dd went to a public school for Kindergarten & we pulled her as soon as the year ended. She's been doing great with homeschooling & is almost done with all of her 2nd grade work, well it's not all 2nd grade work. She is doing 3rd grade Spelling, is starting 3rd grade Math, & has a reading level of at least 5th grade. We use an eclectic approach, so that she can move ahead whenever she's ready, & to make it more interesting for us all. We're not doing too much work with ds. Right now I'm mainly focused on his speech. He was born 12 weeks premature, so the Drs are concerned about his development. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better & learning some new things from you as well.
