I have always gone all out decorating and celebrating each Holiday.

I thought I'd slow it down some, but my kids still come over and expect a Holiday meal and family get together. And now the Grandkids are very involved.

I guess it's a real tradition now and I can't stop it. LOL

When I got married and had my kids, my Mom said that she was going to cut back on her decorating too. She never did once she saw how much her grandkids loved looking at Grandma's stuff. lol! Funny, my Mom used to be a stickler for not touching most of her decorations....until my DD was born and it all went out the door.

I took over the holiday meals but things just weren't the same if Mom didn't decorate her house too. Funny, I remember when I was growing up how she would always say that my Grandmother had way too many knick knacks and stuff cluttering her apartment--she is worse than my Grandmother was but it makes me smile when I think about it.

I miss spending the holidays with her.

When the kids were younger and I was home full time I did decorate for everything and went all out. Now that kids are growing and I work away from home I still decorate for everything, but have scaled back. I tend to go for decorations that are easy to put out, put away and store. I do have a whole closet for storing decoration (Except Christmas-- they have their spot) I have made pillow cover for some of my throw pillows that are seasonal and still look good with my decore.

Certainly, glad to have you here. Do you decorate both inside and outside?

Tami, what you wrote sounds like you were writing about my family. I can understand completely how your Mom felt. I relaxed my "don't touch" standards too when the Grandbabies came along.

It must be a Grandparent thing. Although I remember my paternal grandmother being very strict about us touching her things, you just didn't do it. Period!!!

I hope I'm making unforgetable memories with my young ones, like your Mom and Grandma did.

I still remember all the Christmas decorations my grandmother would pull out when I was a child. That house was Christmas from top to bottom!

Unfortunately, they were stored in the attic, and between a roof leak and a squirrel infestation most of the decorations had to be thrown out a few years before she passed away. I would have proudly displayed some of my favorite pieces in my home. Nothing was precious or expensive or anything like that, but the memories attached were priceless, of course.

Barb, I think that a lot of our Christmas decorating is really sentimental. There are some decorations that the kids just expect to see no matter how old they get. DD 1 has putting Gma's tree up for the past few years. Gma thought maybe now that she is in college maybe she wouldn't have time to do it anymore, but DD told her she was planning to put it up on her Thanksgiving break. Gma has to have a tree according to DD. Decorating the tree can really bring back memories as most of the decorations have either been made by the kids or given to them over the years.

Joy, that's absolutely true. And my kids, when we decorate the tree, have to visit each and every ornament and remember when they made it, or who gave it to them, or whatever! It's a really sweet thing.

Barb, these are the things that make the Christmas Season so precious to me. It's not the money spent nor the many presents. It's the feelings and sentiments that make me tear up.
I'm an old softy.

I am sure that you are. I can still remember visiting my Grandmother's and Aunt's apartments at Christmas time. I especially remember the green candy dish that was always sitting on Grandma's table, always filled with all kinds of Christmas candy. I always remember the great ham that my Aunt made every year too.

I really wish that there was some way that I could afford to surprise my Mother with a visit this year. I dont know who would like it more--her or us. It's not happening this year but hopefully next summer. Thank goodness for unlimited phone calling!!
