I am going to start using the no. 10 cans to grow my herbs. I can get the lunch ladies to save them for me at my lil one's school and they are free. My lil one pokes holes in the bottom of the can and on the sides so we can put wire handles on the can to hang them.

We grow lemon balm and bee balm because of the wonderful smell (but we can also use it to make tea)

Last year I also grew in a small herb garden oregano, basil, dill and parsley to use in cooking. I also had a basil plant on my deck in a pot because it was pretty and smelled nice. I love putting fresh dill in potato salad.

Well I certainly do not grow herbs just to look at. I grow thyme, parsley, mint, tarragon, oregano, lavender, basil, bay - must always have parsley, so I freeze it and it is really easy to break bits off from, but sometimes I chop it and put in ice cube trays. Surplus mint I make into mint sauce and freeze it in small containers (meal size portions) to have with lamb through winter. Oh, I also have rosemary. I do not like dill or coriander, so I do not grow them. Lorraine

I would love to grow garlic. At the garden center I found Pineapple Sage. I'm thinking of adding that to the garden.

I discovered my lavender froze out. I am going to be looking for pineapple sage and basil.
The spearmint, catmint, sage, lemon balm, oregeano and bee balm are all coming up. So is the garlic chives and the chives are going nutty already.

It's not really a garden, but in our kitchen window sill we have parsley and basil growing - Thyme did not want to grow so we threw it out.

I think growing herbs is a great teaching tool for kids. It show's them that they can grow things, it teaches them that plants need to be watered and weeds need to be pulled around them.
