Mary Mary quite contray how does YOUR garden grow?

Sorry couldn't resist the title!

What do you like to plant in your garden?

Do you do separate beds for your veggies and herbs and flowers? Or combine them?

What is your wish garden?

At home I have just flower beds. At the farm my veggie garden has raspberries and flowers and herbs in it too. It is large!

My mil loves to plant 3 bean seeds in one spot! Great for produce but alot of picking! LOL Also, she plants alot of flowers too in the garden.

My dream garden would be large so I could sell of some of the produce or give it to the soup kitchen or something like that.

I would also like an herb garden, formal. I don't know if its called an English herb garden. Where there is grass in between the different sections.

Also would love to have beautiful flower beds!

You know the type - like in Better Homes and Gardens, or on some of those nice garden shows on HGTV.

Ahhh a girl can dream. Some day!

companion planting

is how I do all my gardens. So you never know what will be in one spot. Basil and tomatos or roses, garlic and babies breath. I have everything mixed together. Keeps down on the pests.

i've been reading about companion planting and thinking I will give it a try this year. Depends if my in-laws get the garden planted before I get to the farm!

Fill me in please! I get a feeling that companion planting means that you plant things together that help each other out?

companion gardening

My grandmother always planted flowers on the front of her garden so I assumed it should be that way. People have laughed at me for doing it. I tell them it makes the garden prettier. So, now I have learned that it should be that way. Grandmother always planted marigolds and nasturtiums in her garden, I do too.

Last year was the first time I put a garden in. I think I learned as much as my girls did and we are excited to do it again this year but, bigger. We did just a few vegetables - does anyone have some easy to grow vegetables to suggest? We did peas and beans with sucess. Just for fun we tried sweet corn but, we won't do that again. Oh - we had one tomato plant that had been a gift and really got quite a few tomato's from it. Thanks for any tips and suggestions!
