I try to take calcium supplements but have to be cautious about this since I have a history of kidney stones 3 or 4 times over the years. This is not a fun thing to experience.

As for the coral calcium claims Puritan's Pride sells it too but when a site touts the benefit of their own I'm skeptical as well. They have much to gain from my pocketbook. I've looked at it but it's pricey so if I ever decide to try it I plan to research it then look for the best deal/quality I can find.

Nagymom, that is exactly what I thought about the Coral Calcium hype...my ds had an attack of kidney stone..unusual for a teen...but it happened when we had extremely hot summer....he wasn't drinking enough of plain water....got dehydrated and he got a stone. He was so sick with it..the pain is equivalent to the pain of child birth. They kept him doped up, and did many tests...it was small enough to pass on it own...I was so thankful for that because going fishing for it is a trama for anyone especially a young teen. It took him 6 months to pass it. He has been real good at drinking water now...drinks 64+ounces a day.

Janet that is exactly what passing a kidney stone feels like--childbirth! I hear it's worse for males though I can't imagine it. My oldest dd has inherited this same tendency (which was passed on by my grandmother).

The avatar is a gift from Caron--she's a total whiz at finding cute ones. This one SO fit me that I couldn't wait to use it!

As for foods rich in calsium I think I've read green veggies such as brocolli and spinach are high in calcium.

Degeneritive diseases thrive on acidity and cannot survive in an alkaline body. So the goal is to have a blanced Ph level in your body. Does that clear it up?
