Gassy foods?

Do sugary foods cause gas? Candy and chocolate and such?

Yes, they cause gas.
I have experimented. When I go for days without any of that stuff I don't have gas.
As soon as I start to eat sugar and chocolate and sweet stuff again...BOOM...gas is back.
So I guess maybe you should try and not have any for a few days and then have some and really pay attention to what it does to you.

Well all I can say is that since my gullbladder was removed a lot of food are very gassy for me.

I use to be able to eat onions without any problems.

So now it's either due to not having a gullbladder or maybe it's due to middle age?

Excuse me

I have irritable bowel syndrome and since I saw a dietician 3 years ago, I've not had one major attack. (I knocked on wood after writing that). I was surprised by the types of foods that are gassy. She said fresh fruits and vegetables are some of the biggest culprits - grapes, melons, cucumbers were some of the worst. I would never have guessed that. She recommended completely going off fresh fruits and vegetables at first and to only eat canned fruit and cooked vegetables - the cooking eliminating much of the gas. Increasing fibre is also a huge must to get better - I felt worst for the first little while but when my body got used to it, I sopped having attacks. After feeling better for a few months, she said to SLOWLY start taking fresh fruits and veggies again and to make sure to choose those with the most nutritious value. For example, I rarely eat iceberg lettuce anymore because it's gassy and has very little nutritious value.

Shawn I never made a link between carbs and protein and when I think about it, it would seem very possible that that was a source of my problems. Now that I'm on a somewhat better diet ( still eating way too many carbs even if they are higher in fibre and not eating enough fruits and veggies), I can better stomach certain foods that used to trigger attacks as long as I'm careful and eat them in small quantities. Pizza still seems to be the food that will upset my stomach the fastest - I always thought it had to do with the amount of cheese. So anyway, do you never mix carbs and protein anymore?
