The "Skinny" on Nutrition Bars

Meal Replacement Bars (Balance, Zone Perfect and Slim-Fast Meal On-The-Go Bars)---- In place of a meal, these are your best choices since they contain the ideal ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat.

Low-calorie Snack Bars (Pria & Slim-Fast Snack Options)-- With less than 150 calories, these are OK once in a while if you're pressed for time and need a snack.

High-Protein Bars ( Met-Rx, Protein Plus and Myoplex)--Only benefitial for weight lifters. It's best to get protein from real food.

High-Carb Bars (Power Bar & Clif Bar)--If you're a hiker, long distance runner or a mountain biker, these are OK. Otherwise, these are just extra calories.

"Special Benefit " Bars (Luna,Odwalla Bar!, and Think!). They contain gingko biloba( said to increase brain function), folic acid or calcium( especially good for women), BUT theres no proof that bars are any better than real food nutrients.
