I want to try asparagus & tofu......any ideas ??
Ive never had either one but I want to try them. Why ? Just something different in my quest to eat healthier.
I like fresh spinach now but the spinach noodles leave a lot to be desired in my house. Sooo.....off to experiment with something else. Oh, mangos didnt make it either, although mine may have not been ripe enough.
Any suggestions for either of the items Ive mentioned ?
Anything else that youve tried that is off the beaten path ?
Im still searching for Bev's steamed soybeans in the shell......shouldve seen Dh's face when he read that !!
He laid down the law and said NO WAY was he trying those ! :p Ill find them.....Im on a mission now, LOL !!
I don't know about aspergus but with tofu, you can try a simple recipe :
Do a shepperd pie but take tofu instead of ground beef or half and half (tofu - ground beef), you can also add a layer of spinach.
You take a firm tofu (it exists in different categories but the smooth one isn't good for that), with a fork you give to it the consistency of ground beef).
Last time I did it, one my of my friend came at home with her dh and took me by surprise. I didn't have nothing else ready to offer to them and they were looking that with a bit of disgust.
They told me : Yash - Tofu and spinach! No way, we will order a pizza instead.
I told them to taste it and if they don't like it I'll pay the pizza myself and guest what? They adore it!
You can prepare some of your regular recipes based on chicken and replace it by tofu. Tofu is also good when prepared with marinades.
In a spaguetti sauce you can replace a part of the ground beef with tofu and there's a chance no one will notice it.

Does tofu taste like anything in particular ? I want to try this and not tell my DH !;-) Thats one of those things that he doesnt need to know about ...not even afterwards.
How do you marinade it ? Make it into patties or what ?
As you can see, Ive had no experience with it......its just one of those things that Im curious about and would like to try it.
Thanks for the help !! Keep any other ideas coming !!
No tofu has no taste at all, you're the one who decide what it will taste. It's fun isn't it?;-)
If you want to marinate it, you just have to cut it small cubes, like you would do with kebab. You take the marinade you like most (you can find some at the grocery store that are already made). But in that case your dh will maybe notice that's tofu but you can try it anyway.
If you don't want him to know, you should incorporate ground tofu in your spaghetti sauce or in a chili (half and half with ground beef to start) or in the shepperd pie, that's the best way to do it.
You and your dh had probably taste tofu without knowing it. You find a lot of Asiatic (Chinese, Japanese ...) meals made with tofu, specially those with sauce and vegetables. When cut in small cubes, it looks like chicken but you can't see any fiber, the texture is about . I've just made a tofu schezuan last night, I took a chicken schezuan recipe on Beckie's website and replace the chicken by tofu. Really good.
I let you know if I found something interesting

we love garlic asparagus. Take asp.... and put it on a cookie sheet, brush with olive oil and then minced garlic. Put in a very hot oven 500 degrees. It cooks in a very short time and is delicious. OF course we love garlic....... :-)

I forgot all about this question, LOL
I did try fresh asparagus (grilled outside with other veggies) and I really liked it.
I havent tried the tofu yet. Ive read that people with thyroid problems should stay away from a lot of stuff, tofu being one of them. I would try it if I was out somewhere and I could get a small portion of it but I dont want to waste the money buying just for me. I know that my DH and DS would never eat it.
Another thing that Ive never tried and cant imagine what is so good about them is artichokes. How 'bout them? Anyone here like them???
