Ohhhh Artichokes! The best part is eithr the melted butter you dip each steamed leaf into before you scrape the flesh off with our teeth...
Or the stuffing that goes into them before they're oven baked...
I love marinated artichoke hearts that are sold in jars too. They're a wonderful part of an antipasto platter at an Itallian meal.
Artichokes have a slightly bitter/sweet attack on the tongue...and then the flesh of the leaf is creamy in your mouth... With the melted butter on the leaf.. my kids say to describe it as "heaven" lol
Cindy.. Asparagus in the can is NO relation to fresh asparagus whatsoever!! Try some fresh asparagus ..steamed CRISP, or pangrilled ( or on the gas grill) with just a bit of butter/olive oil,, salt, and a touch of garlic. If you like lemon, put some on too.. Very spring time. People tend to over-cook it to tinny-tasting bitter mush Yuk!!
ajsrmom.. Tofu is also called "beancurd" in chinese restaurants..and Tempeh in Japanese restaurants...( you'll also see it on menus as "textured soy protein" Maybe if you get to a chinese buffet you can try a tofu dish in a sauce you'd like.
I don't know why people with Thyroid disease can't have tofu.. unless the plant esters effect the Thyroid... ( tofu has estrogen -type elements in it, as do all soy products)
I have made tofu-parmiganna, and no one knew ! ( Can you believe it!?) I also love it stir fried in a spicy garlic sauce.. I only like the extra-firm variety.. I don't like the texture of the softer varieties, personally...
Let me know if you get your lips on some.
