Witch Hazel helps fight Herpes simplex virus type 1 that causes cold sores. Apply witch hazel with a cotton swab dipped into the bottle of witch hazel and then dab it onto your cold sore. (Don't double dip the swab; use a new one each dip) Apply it several times a day. Witch hazel's drying effect will break down the fatty outer envelope of virus cells which will weaken them.

Thanks cat lover I like to use abreva when I get a cold sore. It seems to help them heal up faster. The bad part is its so expensive for just a little tube of it.

I didn't know this! I will try this, along with Llysine the next time I break out with one. Thanks!
