Umm,He might want to have that checked out, a hernia can be veyt dangerous if left untreated. Hopefully it is just something mildly wrong and maybe not even a hernia! Good Luck!

thank you all so much for replying and sharing your experience--it really is helpful for me to hear other people's experiences. I am now 10 days post-op and I am beginning to be able to get around some. I am still very slow, very cranky and trying to limit the amount of painkillers I am taking since it has been over a week. I have to say, this was much more like a c-section than a gallbladder repair. What is odd is that my doctor told me to expect it to be similar to the gallbladder--about 4-5 small incisions but perhaps a little more internal pain. Well, I am totally carved up! I have 13 incisions! Unfortunately, my doctor let town shortly after my surgery so I never got to talk to him afterwards--just his partner. I will see my doc for a followup on Tuesday and I have plenty of questions! I do know that when they started, they found that my hernia was larger than expected and they also found a second hernia so it might just be that he got started and got a surprise and didn't have any choice but to keep making the little incisions to reach everything? who knows! I am just so glad to be mending now. I've been mostly in bed for the last 10 days, just trying to walk more and do more each day. The nurse said it will take a while and it will be painful but as long as I don't lift over 10 pounds, I'll be okay! Thanks to all of you!

I am taking it very easy right now--I've just started sitting at the computer for 15 minutes at a time. other than that, I try to get up a walk a little more each day and then rest in between walks. I am spending most of my time reading and writing letters. I may move on to scrapbooking now because I am running out of people to write to!

Hey jenniecherie, keep taking it easy. Do what you can. I found that getting out for a coffee was the best thing on my road to recovery! It had to be somewhere close and quiet where I could just sit with my mum, have a drink and then back home to bed! But it helped me feel 'normal'.

Walking is also good. The more you move (even if it is slowly) the quicker you will recover. There is a reason doctors get you right out of bed so soon after surgery. I was out of recovery and in my room only a few hours when nurse came to get me to walk the halls for a bit. I walked at a toddler's pace with baby steps but did a whole circuit. I think when you sit or lay down too much you get stiff as well. Just take it easy, be good to yourself and take recovery one day at a time. And especially don't lift anything until your doctor gives you the go ahead!!!
