I am looking for anyone out there with the same problem!!! I have heel spurs {plantar fascitis,Dr.term}anyways I have been going to the dr. for quite some time...and it was getting to be silly going and him not doing anything.I DID get some "orthodics" at a high price!!!! and I dont know if they helped!!!!???!!!! I didnt get shots or the operation like it suggested.Trying these things in my shoes first!! I DO admit I DONT walk on my toes like I did when I FIRST went to him BUT sometimes my foot still bothers me!!!! Does anyone have this problem?? give any suggestions??? I have read iin the newspaper there is something called shock wave therapy...OR is that just another come on?????
I dont know what to do!!! any thoughts I will be thankful for!!!!!
I'm sorry this is so late. I just ran across this thread.
I have had foot surgery for spurs on the backs of my feet--Hagland's fdeformities--and all I can say is DON'T DO IT!!! Once your feet are cut on they are never the same. I have constant foot pain now that is complicated by plantat fascitis and in recent years neuropathy. I don't know that the surgery caused it but it sure doesn't help me. I also now have a neuroma (inflamed bundle of nerves) under the toes on my left foot. Been there, done this before years ago. It's easy to fix. Last time I had a shot of cortisone into the spot and was normal and pain free in short order.
However I sincerely suggest you try anything but surgery on your feet. Trust me--I've been there.

A friend of mine has then surgery as well and then when I was thinking about having it she said NO, DON'T DO IT! She said trhe same thing. She has more problems now than before. She went to a new doctor and he said it is all in how you treat it. Wear good shoes and stretch every morning before you get up and try not to go bare foot often. I have done this and I can say it helped me I hardly have foot pain now unless I wear bad shoes.
Here is the stretching excercise to do before you even get out of bed!!!!! Have a large workout rubber band or a towel. take the towel and loop it under the balls of your feet and hold each end of the towel and pull towards you. Stretching the back of your leg as far as you can then point your toes back out. Do this 5-6 times on each foot then roll feet in circles. Then get ones of those roller massages things you can roll your feet over to massage the middle of foot and roll it back and forth.
She said keeping these muscles (one on back of heel and bottom of feet) stretched will keep you from getting spurs. I have also gotten in the habit when I am brushign my teeth to stand their going up adn down on my feet with my toes. (This is good for calves as well)
May not work for you but worked for me!!!

This is a pretty old thread but I'm hoping someone will see it. I believe I have plantar fascitis (sp). I am wondering what the treatment options are for this and where I can find immediate relief. These hurt!
HI Amanda!!!! my dr wanted to give me cortazone shots...didnt want them!!! and he gave me things..pardon the spelling...orthodics!!! hubby and I both got them!! around here they were pricey I think anyways!!! I think about $250??!! and to get them recoated or whatever they call it...its $100. egads!!! but my heel does feel better!!! hope it helps!! OH and I try to stretch my heels in the morning too!!!!!!
when I had a heal spur I got the shot and it was gone shortly afterwards and not been back thank goodness. That was back in 1990 or 91...
I also have no arch and had to get special arches from the doctor to put in my shoe to wear. This occur around 97... the arches were for flat feet which you can get going barefeet alot..
I know there is a wart that is called planter
wart that is alot like a spur but it not on the heel. When I got one of those this yr a friend told me to use a planter wart remover which it tells you it takes ??? weeks to use, but I used it a few times and it was gone.
thak goodness. whenever I have a hint of that wart coming back I put that wart remover on and it gone the next day.
when you talk about feet problems I got them.. as I injury one of my feet back when I was a teenager and then the other one back when I was a young women..
I do know when you feet hurt it messes up your entire body due to the nevers that is in the feet has connection to the rest of your body.

I emailed Coll about this as I think she told me she recently was told she had this. The only thing I have ever had on my planter (bottom of the foot) is a wart. I will say that becuase the planter is so tough and thick, getting a shot there is so painful. I hope you find something that can be done for it that is quick and painless.
I don't know if this will work, but I forgot to say that I found a site that offers some exercises. It might be worth a try to check them out.
Yes I have a heel spur, the doctor said no surgery is needed for it. Also the plantar facsiitis (sp?). he wanted me to have cortisone shots. I said no for now. I'm trying a twop week trial of Medrol, an anti-inflamatory. And some cheap arch supports for now. I start the meds tomorrow.
