Cholesterol is the substance in the blood that thickens it and causes high blood pressure and heart diseases. Cholesterol may be good or bad. And bad cholesterol is what causes major harm to the heart and the rest of the body. Good cholesterol, on the other hand, helps flush out bad cholesterol in the blood. Cholesterol can be obtained from the things that you eat. This means that you should always watch what you eat in order to keep your cholesterol level from rising.
Cholesterol is present in the meals that you prepare and from those you buy from the store. It is very important that you know the estimated cholesterol content of all the foods you eat. If you know for a fact that you are suffering from a heart disease, you should stay clear of foods containing high levels of cholesterol. Avoiding these foods could practically save your life.

Does anyone know much about any of this cholesterol things please...
We eat healthy, we generally watch what we eat, we look for foods that will not raise cholesterol, my levels are good, but my hubby's isn't good. He is on meds for it and they have brought them down to 5.3 but dr isn't happy with it. He eats more healthy than I do
How is his worse than mine? when he eats better than me and also has meds for it?

Low carb diets are good for lowering cholesterol but it has to be a lifestyle change, not a "diet" that you can quit because once you do, your levels will raise again like they are now.
I am taking grapefruit pectin, three capsules a day. That and losing weight. I lost weight last summer and my numbers started coming down. Has your dh had his thyroid checked? My thyroid meds were lowered and my numbers went up. Doctor said an out of whack thyroid can cause your numbers to go up.
I have also been told that the ratio of good to bad is more important that the numbers themselves.
