The gall of it!

My name is Kathy and I have a gallstone problem .... LOL

Well I've just had an ultrasound done and they found 1 stone in a tube so I'm back to my Doc in half an hour and we will see how things proceed from there.

Anyone have some gallstone stories

Thanks Tammi, I'm glad it's nothing worse.

3 weeks ago I got my first real big pain fro this and it's only now I went to the Doc.
At the moment I have a free flwoing with no infection 2.2cm (almost an inch) gallstone.
I have the paper work to see a specialist and we'll see how we progress from there.

I thought you only go these as an older person but have since found out that it can come at any age and there are different reasons for the build up and make up of a stone.

We learn something new every day!

Kathy eat a lot of beets. My dr told me this many years ago. There's a chemical that seems to help break down the stone he said. At least it's worth a try, but you need to eat a lotof them

Didn't happen to mention whether fresh beetroot or tinned is the same or one is better than the other?

I did read that a hot lemon drink minus sugar each morning is good for the digestion and eases the pain along with parsley, celery and something else that now eludes me.

Is this something you've had, did you need to have an op and if so did they just take out the stone or the whole gallbladder?

Only times I've spent in hospital was for the 2 boys and they were born naturally, so the hospital is not a place I want to stayif I don't hve to .... I'm a wuss huh LOL

Happy did it hurt to pass the stone, did it pass before any way of removal was was talked about, did they not seem that worried cause it was small?

I know so many darn questions LOL
Of all the things I thought the pain could have been a gall stone was not on my list.

Kathy, I don't know the exact size but it was small....no it wasn't painful to pass but remember it was small. I know friends that pass them to, one was very painful the other like me, no pain..Yes it pased before talk of removal....I dislike hospitals too.......

Kathy, hugs to you!!!

I found out I had gallstones not long after the birth of my 3rd child. After a severe attack (had no idea what was wrong) the ultrasound showed I had so many gallstones they couldn't count them all. I ended up having my gall bladder removed which required only one night in the hospital and was done laprascopically. I had absolutely no pain at all and the only restrictions was to not life anything very heavy for a few weeks. i was back at work a couple days after the surgery. As I had my gall bladder removed, I don't know what it feels like to "pass" a gall stone. I wish I could be more help. I do know you are supposed to stay away from "fatty" foods if you have gall stones but that's about it.

Kathy -- It is funny that you started this thread, because my dh just got diagnosed with gallstones yesterday. He has not had any real pain, just long-standing heartburn that was being treated for years with medication. Finally, his doc decided to give him an ultrasound to see what else may be giving him the symptoms. He is scheduled to have the surgery (outpatient) in a few weeks (since he has a few important business trips that he can't miss). We discussed it with his doctor, and it sounds like there really isn't any other treatment for chronic gallstones other than surgery.

We'll be sending all sorts of good wishes your way!!
