All of her life, my daughter Merri had tummy problems. It hurt, she was unable to potty, etc. She was 40 when a doctor was able to diagnose her properly. She is very sensitive to corn, wheat, and dairy. The book Eat right 4 your type explained to her (a type O) what foods would help and which ones would not. She lost about 50 pounds and is doing fine now. So... the whole family decided to try changing what we eat to be more beneficial for our bodies. We now eat corn free and wheat free foods. Label reading is a must. Corn syrup and corn starch seems to be in everything. We added lots more veggies (try raw, or steamed, not boiled to death), lots of fruits, especially ones in season, and we sweeten with stevia, which I grew in the garden and you can too. You can also just buy it in the health food store We have meat about twice a week and fish twice a week also. At first, it is a daunting task, but then you get into it and read labels on everything and you;ll be pleasantly surprised at the wonderful things you have been missing, just because you have been on the "common" American diet.

Megsmom, I have a question about stevia. I am also growing it and grew it last year, but I have no idea how to use it! Can you give me some directions?

What I do is this: I hung bundles of the fresh plant on ribbon to dry. When dry, I crush it between two cotton kitchen towels (flour sack type best) and place in pan with water. Boil it until water gets low and add more water. Bring to boil and let steep until you are ready to continue the process. Strain it through a fine seive or cloth into container suitable for fridge. Cap and keep cold. Discard the residue from straining unless you can get more sweetening out of it by doing the process over again. I never have much luck with that. You can also boil the fresh plant leaves and get a good syrup that way. It is sweeter than sugar, we think and so test how much you like in whatever you use it. It is nearly free when you grow your own. Happy gardening and cooking

Angry Health fitness and you

I have tried diets to no avail. but now I believe in eating healthy and smaller portions, as my husband was diagnosed with bowel cancer earlier this year. I insist he eats fruit and fish regularly and go for long walks with me and the dogs, he is still undergoing chemotherapy and doing well.

Lesleyj60 hugs to you sweetie. Sounds like it has been a tough year. Kudos to you for insisting your dh eats healthier!

Megsmom would you start a thread on cooking with stevia? I would love to learn more about this herb.
